porting the exhaust

i was looking at my unported engine in its bay today. i asked myself, "what does the outside of the exhaust port look like when its been ported?" now, im asking you guys. does the cartridge looking thing come out or something? the gasket doesnt even cover that area. i would only figure that if you were to gasket match the exhaust then that "collar" would come out or whatever.

thanks,
paul

Nope, the sleeve stays. It gets opened up a little, but the big power is made by the porting of the rotor housing port shape.

You CAN take out the collar but there are mixed ideas about this. Rice Racing took his collar out and ported the hell out of it but most people dont. Rice said it made quite a large difference BUT I'd imagine thats mostly at rpms higher that you want to run....seems like he runs to like 10K rpms or something. Anyway, I've heard that the collar being metal absorbs alot of head from the combustion chamber which is a good thing.

I'd leave it in and just get a template.
