Question Porting...

What exactly is a street port and how much hp/tq do you gain just from having it done? Also what is the price on getting that done?

Also do you need an aftermarket ecu or any fuel mods to run the ported engine?

Porting is bascially grinding or polishing. When you port you are not only cleaning the metal of them, but also anything that is sticking out or generally obstructing the flow of the air. The porting makes it smoother and creates less resistance while also enlarging the diameter of the area that the air has to flow. I don't know how much power is gained, but I do know it is worth the money.

the ammount of power gained from portign depends on a few factors,
1) the size of the port
2) the port shape
3) is the engine turbo/ nos..what reves will it be mostly used for,
porting will give more hp with more mods and higher boost. it allows the engine to breather easier therefor can make better #'s

the port shape affects it just as much as the size dose, like if you port the inner lip you will go into the oil controll ring area and burn oil. porting is an art, it can be done with templates but you realy want a builder whoos been doing it for a while and can do it with their eyes closed...
do a search and you should find some pics of voskos porting
theres a few threads in the single turbo section on porting, many good pics of good ports and bad ports

im not an expert on this, but when you get bigger ports they generally will give you horsepower gains and but you will lose a little low end torque, the bigger the port the more hp/less torque...
