I dont think porting the UIM will yield that big of a result. I think someone has done it before and weren't too satisfied

As for the LIM, im not too sure. It's pretty much all hearsay, but someone said the LIM has the most restriction when it comes to airflow through the TB, UIM, and LIM

The porting would take away those butterflies that that are closed during the warm-up phase and it would eliminate the bridge between the 2 butterflies.

the runners acutally taper down in the lim, they are adding velocity to the air fuel charge, its also why it is a restriction on the flowbench. if you were port matching thats one thing, but on a stock motor its probably not worth the time

Garfinkle removes the plates and the bridge and reshapes that area plus more in there. he port matches and smooths every thing ,plus matches the throttle body to the uim when he bores the throttle body. he also flows the tb if it is bored or not. How much gain ? do not know but when all is done they run way better. So go ahead and do it . no cost , only time well spent.

I have port matched my LIM to the UIM just because I had it off and I got inspired after reading the 2nd gen forum port match stories. Port matching the LIM to the engine would most likely yield the most returns, but I felt I tore enough of my car apart for now.
I just installed my newly used turbos with full non-sequential, and I figured it wouldn't hurt to try an get a little more flow in the intake to speed those puppies up.

Local rotary guru around here has done it on a couple FD's. The porting looks really cool and theoretically would seem like a good idea. Those RX-7's are making 550+ RWHP .... but with large single setups, so who knows if it's actually making the difference in power. Having ridden in one of them, I can say this ... 1st, 2nd, and a lot of 3rd gear are virtually useless. Unless you just like smoking your street tires ...

Is polishing a good idea?

I think if u leave the edges rough it atomizes the fuel mixture better.......... or is it?

yeah batman... i have read many times that it is supposed to be rough, for the fuel reason stated. but the induced turbulence would slow air down. i wonder if a smooth surface would still work ok? anyone?

A mirror like finish is not best some roughtness is good to keep the gas atomized .What grit to finish with is the question. Fine is subjective at best but mirror smooth is not as good, I think Garfinkle finishes with 220 grit but I am not sure.

I'll add - but anything before the fuel injectors can be polished and will help.

What if we got rid of the lower intake hole as well on the uim to leave one big triangular shap like hole would this work.
