Ported throttle body

Well, I am entering phase two of my mods. and I was thinking of ways to get more air in with same boost. Has anyone ported their throttle bodies, I know RP sells enlarged ones, but how hard can it be? What are the cons. of going with an enlarge TB? The major things I am adding right now on top of sig mods are:

pulley's
HKS twinpower
fuel upgrade, 1200CC and pump.

Would enlarging it even be benefical with my mods? I plan on runnign 1 bar of boost.

Thanks guys

Tony from www.Rxecret7.com had a set ported by RC engineering. Not sure how well it helps...he gave it to Pete from XS Engineering to use on his 10 second FD. From what I know Pete has not installed it yet.

I saw the TB and it is friggin nice. The ports are huge and the upper intake manifold was match ported to it. Important thing is to also get the manifold match ported.

I read somewhere that the restircation was in the lower maniofold not the throttle body so the ported throttlebody might not help.

Yep, he has found some relatively cheap and 100% dependable hp. Makes tons of sense to me.... I'm actually kind of hoping my engine will blow soon so he can take his nasty little air tools to it! I've done all kinds of stuff like this before on two stroke race bikes but I for sure would leave it to him on this one. It requires a lot of "touch" and his finished product is beautiful. Something only another wrench could really appreciate. A real work of art - I've watched him at work - INTENSE (in a focused way). I've always wondered why everyone spends SO much money on all kinds of dubious bolt on enhancements when making it breathe can be measured (on the bench and off) and will NEVER go bad. Not only improves hp, but low end torque as well. What more could a rotorhead want?

Come to think of it, he has more like 31 years of experience on rotaries.

I suspect that there is not much to be gained on a streetable car by increasing the bore of the throttle bodies. The car has two 50mm and one 45mm throttle body from the factory. That setup is equivalent in area to a single 84mm throttle body. That is huge. I was looking for some web guide on sizing throttle bodies and didn't find anything. I did find a dual 58mm throttle body that flows 1050 CFM. Two 58mm throttle bodies are equivalent in area to a single 82mm throttle body (which is smaller than the stock FD setup), and 1050 CFM is more than you are going to flow with a 13B.

Rotaryknight: have you happened to see my car anywhere around Tony's? I'm kinda interested in who has it. I don't think you could miss it....look at my name....also it has a T-88 setup.

Yea i remember that car.....who did your TB polishing it's nice. I tried stealing your slicks but Tony wouldn't let me.

Yea Tony's been working on that for a while. Never really asked him too much about the car but I think Tony had a motor built for it and I think everyithing is being dropped in.

Still gonna try to steal your slilcks.

Well said, Max. A TB porting is like the last thing you do in order to squeeze out the last couple of HP out of the 13B-REW, which you could count on one hand. I'm talking about cars in the 600 range. I wasn't going to respond to this thread until I saw another thread by KZ1 where he was asking if the stock BOV is sufficient for 1 bar boost. Judging by the level that your car is at, KZ1, it really doesn't justify spending your money on a ported TB.

Not yet

I asked Chris at RP about the throttle body just recently while discussing plans for my motor rebuild. He said it is one of the last things to do. The LIM is the choking point and I'd get more for the money sending my upper and lower intake to extrude hone ($585). He said they dyno'd a car recently with an extrude honed intake and all the bolt-ons using a high flow cat at 13 psi and it made around 335-340rwhp, this set-up without the extrude hone is usually good for 310-325rwhp with a high flow cat.

I remember reading a few years ago that Adam Sauritari (however the hell you spell it) was still using a stock throttle body running in the low 10's.

Just before my o-ring failed I did some porting on the UIM, gasket matched both ends and cut out the bridge where the secondary butterflies use to be. This seemed to improve throttle response above 3000 rpm and felt stronger above 5000 rpm. This cost nothing more than an afternoon of your time if you're so inclined.

RotaryKnight: My throttle body was polished by a local company in Vegas. I really hope that noone trys to use my slicks....I have them marked. There is nothing that pisses me off more than someone using your parts while it's supposedly at a shop. I'm sure your just playin around.....but my car deal right now is really starting to wear on my last nerve. I WANT MY CAR DONE AND BACK TO ME WITHIN THIS LIFETIME!!
I think Tony needs to get off his *** and get my car done or give it back....hell, I'll finish it! I'm missing out on Sponsor deals and magazine/internet coverage the longer it sits around. I've almost got a deal set with a Casino for a full sponsorship....but lack of car is a real problem with stuff like that.:bash

Just so you know I'm just venting....no hard feelings toward you at all........ unless you steal my slicks
