Porsche seats in an FD?

I am looking at different options for doing seats in the FD, from seat skins to brides to maybe different model seats. I found a really good deal on brand new porsche 997 turbo seats, they look like this but with black stitching instead of the red:

What would be involved to put these in the fd? I would assume i would have to have custom rails fabricated. I would also have to make sure that they fit to begin with. When asking for dimension on the seats should i just be worried about the shoulder area and the width of the bottom? Any way i would be able to use the power controls that come with the seats? Any other things i should be looking for? I can get this set-up for about $400 cheaper than new brides and these will be in leather and with power control. Any input is suggested.

thanks
B

You need measurements of the bottom and the upper width of the seats. If they will work the rest is just your determination. I would use the rails that come with the seat and just make brackets to mount them to the fd holes. The power options would not be hard to wire up at all...

Most of the Porsche seats I have sat in felt pretty flat and a lot wider than the FD seats. Based on that, I am skeptical about them fitting in the car. Also, while nice, I think the FD seats would look nicer if you had them re-upholstered by a high end interior shop.

Red stitching FTW!

I'm w/ CMonakar on this one; doubt they'd fit. Plus they look like some heavy seats. Now if you were talkin the CF GT3 seats, we'd be in business haha.

Oh and of course, there's always the FD OEM Recaros to consider

I highly doubt they would fit. In fact, I'd bet against it. I once went to buy Recaro Pole Position just to be told it wouldn't fit at the shop....after one of the worker there went to measure the space.

But, that's because of the shoulder part of the seat. I sat in 996 TT with GT3 seats and there are ample of room there....a lot more than FD.

There was a thread with pics somewhere on the forum with a guy who put older Porsche seats in his FD. Can't seem to find it readily right now but try searching this and the interior forum.

Those seats are less supportive, heavier and I believe too wide; why not just reupholster the FD seats in high end leather.

Any recommendations on 1 piece seats that *do* fit in an FD?

I've read a number of threads, but it's difficult to come to any conclusions.

It seems almost necessary to find seats with measurements close enough to fit, and actually first sit in the seat before buying. It's pretty hard to do that unless you happen to live near a shop that might actually have the seats in question. Not always possible.
