Unhappy Pop goes the motor

Well guys, I think I popped my motor today. I was driving on the interstate when i see an M3 come up on me pretty fast in my rear view mirror. I move over and let him pass, but then get the itch to play a little. I have to say I was surprised at the speed of the M3, we held even all the way up to 145. As I slowed down, I noticed some smoke coming out of the engine compartment. I was fortunate enough to be only a few miles away from the dealership...and since I happen to have an extended warranty on the car, I dropped the car off to be looked at today. When I got off the interstate and put the car in neutral, it immediately died...after recranking, it was ok while driving until i put it in neutral again...same result. Hopefully I will be getting a new motor put in and I'll be on the road again soon.

Sounds like exactly what happened to my friends 93' MD auto. Punched it on the highway to get past some cars and make his exit. Wont start now so its gonna be towed to get checked out.

What other symptoms are you having? Did you check the MAP sensor?

yeah, car would start and run down the road okay...but as soon as you took it out of gear and stopped, the engine would just die.

I figured I would let the dealership give it a full diagnostic, if they find anything covered under warranty...the insurance company will pay the diagnostic fee as well. So we'll see what they find tomorrow. BTW, this dealership has 2 certified rx7 mechanics, and they seem to have a good rep from the local speed shops.

If something is seriously wrong, you might want to take off that downpipe and intake before you let the warranty reps see your car.

Well, here is an update. The motor, as far as the dealership can tell, is not blown. I have numerous oil leaks, a radiator leak, and some vacuum lines that need to be replaced. They are waiting to hear back from the insurance company to tell them what they will, or will not cover. After they fix the oil leaks, they will run a compression test to make sure the engine is ok. So I'm crossing my fingers.
