I bought my '99 Version 5 Type RB in April 2015, two weeks after retirement.

For me it has not only been the joy of owning this unique and beautiful car, but the lifestyle associated with our local vibrant rotary community and the global contact with fellow owners afforded by this site and others..

Never a dull moment!

I'm likely one of the youngest here at 22. I stumbled across this forum back in the fall of 2017 and quite frankly was not that interested in cars. What really got me interested was seeing all the knowledge that was contained within this website and how passionate the people behind the forum posts were. The more I read, the more made sense, and at the time, the cars were fairly priced for the most part and I told myself I'd buy one the second I graduated from college. Fast forward to the summer of 2020, I crossed paths with forum member Aarkaah who graciously took me under his wing and was able to give me first-hand experience working on these cars and the knowledge gained from his 30 some years of RX-7 ownership. Bought my car after realizing that the market was going up and that it would likely be my last chance to get one for anything remotely reasonable amount of money in May of '21.

I haven't been in the game for very long, but what I do know is that there are some extremely knowledgeable and passionate folks who are also pretty decent to be around.

 

The 30-39 group appear to be pulling ahead.

But last survey had 40+ as a single group. Add up the 40s plus, so far, and it is nearly 50%.

Still a small sample size though..

Last survey's drop in younger ages may have been, in part, due to people migrating to other sites.

 

I have not thought about my age in the past few years until calculating it now for this thread.

How did I get so old.

 

I am happy that, so far, there is a least 6 guys I can hang out with.

 

I can tell you there are alot more people in the 40-49 bracket than the current number implies. Much of the original crew that started this forum I'm still in contact with. The vast majority of them though hardly visit the forum anymore. Other chat programs have taken over. This being said, I still prefer to come to the forum and check out what's new or if something has changed.

I've been fortunate enough to grow with my FD and the forum since 98. It is the first vehicle I've ever bought for myself. I was very fortunate to have space to keep her in my life. Both physically and metaphorically. Till this day she;s been the longest standing relationship I've had in my life. I've met some of my lonest standing friends on this forum. Attended weddings, anniversaries, divorces, etc. As it stands, about half of us still own our vehicles, while the other half have had to obtain other vehicles due to their lifestyles.

The FD has always been my dream car and it is one that'll never leave my side. Other vehicles will come and go, but the FD is for life.

 

Our local rotary Whatsapp chat has been going since late 2014. We have about 170 members. I would say at least 80% are below age 39. The chat has archived over 37,000 rotary related pics. Going back through those recently, I was surprised how many cars only appear once and have not been seen again. Meanwhile, unfamiliar cars keep popping up. Based on "sightings" and currently active members, I would estimate we have about 300 FD in our area. The ICBC data base shows 250 "RX7". It is uncertain how many are FD, or whether that data is only for currently active cars.

There has been a steady conversion of original Canadian LHD to high end builds (i.e. +$100,000 spent), with mixed success. Some of these simply disappeared after being converted. Others are kicking about, likely worth much less than if they had been left stock.

 

I have a very similar story The FD has always been my dream car since I was a little kid playing Need for Speed Underground in 2004. When I graduated college in 2019 and started making a living wage I bought one that fall. A year later I met @DaleClark who has been a huge help.

Survey was in 2001. 1462 respondents.

That is a pretty good representation of the total FD ownership population.

The 2007 survey had about 263 respondents.

In 2001, the LHD fleet was 7-9 years old. Maybe many cars were just on their second owners.

The ownership pool was predominantly young (or maybe the OG were not on the internet yet?)

The FD was still in production in Japan.

 

The 475 people who where then in the 20-25 group have now moved to the 40-45 group We are getting old!

Bought my first FD in 2004 after owning FC's since '96. I felt I was late to the game then but I just simply couldn't afford one, after getting married and having a good job I was able to finance mine.

So I was 32 when I bought mine and I'm 50 now Time flies!

Since the question asked what's your CURRENT age bracket, I'm among the ancient 60-69'ers group. But I've been playing with rotaries for a loooooong time! My 1st rotary was an '85 GSL-SE, that I bought new at about 25 years old, next was a new '93 FD in my early 30s (had it less than a year - sold due to growing family & no back seat), then my S5T2 FC that I picked up in '99 in my late 30s which I still have, and my current FD that I picked up in 2019 in my late 50s.

 

Bought my first RX7 at about the same age, a new 81 ‘S’. You can do the age-math. But man…a GSL-SE? You were a baller. I was still paying off college on an entry level salary. Even the dead-pedal was an option on the ‘S’ model.

 

Not as baller as you'd think. I was also paying off a fat college loan too, but I managed to save substantially on the living expenses by sharing a big rented house with 4 other guys I worked with when i was starting out back then. So we spent most of our cash on cars, booze, women & student loans, not necessarily in that order One of my roomies had a 2nd gen Supra, and another had an AE86, but the FB was the undisputed chic magnet. Fun times!

Spot on. I am exactly that individual you speak of. I would log into this site every couple years to poke around but really didn't start using it again until I was closer to buying again. A lot of us had kids and got caught up with life leaving the cars on the backburners until we can breath again.

 

I bought my first FD in 09 when I was 16.
I bought my second FD in 18 when I was 25.

Still have both. =D

 

28 when I bought it, 31 now.

 

bought mine at 24 and still have it at 36
