point me in the right direction

Hey guys,
Ok, so I'm new...let the flaming begin, I've searched some, but I can't find the threads I'm looking for. I just sold my 98' 240sx that I did an sr20det swap, and picked up a 93' Rx-7. Great car, but it consumes a quart of oil every 150-200 miles. I haven't really broken down the car yet, so before I do, I was wondering if this is a common problem and what and where I should be looking. If I can't fix it, I was wondering where I can get another engine. I know I can get some from zerolift, but I was wondering if there where some rotary only performance shops. Kinda like (Heavy Throttle) for the sr. Also, Could you guys point me to some threads of some basic engine upgrades.

Basically, I was wondering if there is an 3rd gen rx-7 guide for dummies.

I appreciate it.
Scott

welcome to the forums...My 94 fd also consumes some oil but I guess that's not that bad for a 10 year old rotary.

Use the search function...you can find a lot of good info.

Here's one...

And here's another.

If your car is consuming a quart every 150-200 miles, and you're not seeing a mosquito abatement in your rear view mirror every time you get on the throttle, you've probably got an external oil leak somewhere.

So where should I look, is it going to be a seal, perhaps a cracked upper oilpan? I ask this because this happened on a friend's celica.
Define mosquito abatement.

Patience, my man. I know the server sometimes sucks, but if it doesn't answer you right back, just log out and log back in to see if you message went through (the triple post... ).

"Mosquito abatement"=smoke screen. If it's not burning the oil, it leaking out externally somewhere. That requires some inspection on your part. It could be any number of places.

Haha, no. Temperamental, yes, however, it *is* a high maintenance car and needs to be taken care of accordingly.

It's no Honda or Nissan or Toyota that will tolerate ham-fisted tuning or modifications. Treated right, and it will provide incredible performance; simply neglect it, or throw various mods at it without planning it through, and it will be "a pain in the *** all around."

This is why we recommend people research before purchasing the car. Good luck.
