Plugs foul at idle
Plugs foul at idle
Hey, I'm rather new to these forums but they seem pretty useful. I have a 1994 FD. I have basic mods done to it FMIC, Intake, Turbo Timer, Full exhaust, Boost controller, ect. I had the car tuned recently by Aspec to 10PSI making 294whp. After that it ran great and was really quick. After driving it for about two weeks it seems to be running a little more sluggish than it was when I first got it. I drove it hard for about 10 minutes on a hot day and waiting at a stop light it died. I had to push start the car. It did the same thing later on in the day. Now since that day after driving it for about 15-25 minutes it always feels like it wants to die at a light. I can see the rpms dropping really low and I constantly give it gas untill I get rolling. It starts really good in the morning when it's cold but durring the day when it's hotter out it takes a while to turn over and get started. I changed out all the spark plugs with new ones. I'm using 4 NGK BUR9EQ's. The motor has 600 miles on it since the rebuild. I'm guessing it's running too rich for some reason. When I stand behind the car when it idles you can smell fuel, not strong but you definately smell fuel. When I rev up the car it doesn't rev up smooth. When I hold it at around 3k it's not steady it's rough. I'm still learning this motor so I'm not sure if that's normal. If anybody could give me some advice it would be much appreciated.
Definitely running too rich.
(1) Verify that the air temp sensor is reading correctly as it controls fuel as the air temp changes. If it fails, the engine will run too rich due to it defaulting to a very cold condition.
(2) Verify that the leading coil is firing the leading plugs. If it failed, idle will be very bad and power will be down for all driving conditions. It will also run rich due to poor combustion. ALso make sure the plug wires did not come loose from the coils.
If you are inexperienced with this car, take it back to Sean.
