Please Read....Simple Fix For Some Problems...

Okay so I've had issues with my RX-7 ever since I got it back from the shop. Now the issues that happened were bucking, car stalling on its own at idle, couldn't pass smog, and numerous other nuicances that made the car a chore to drive.

So I've checked my TPS and every other sensor on my car and couldn't find any problems. So I read on the forum on how to check other parts of the car so I decided that I was gonna check to see if the air pump clutch engages.

Well I start the car and sure enough it doesn't and nor does the AC. So now I'm thinking how much a new pump would cost but my dad had this bright idea to check the fuses. So sure enough the Air Cond fuse was busted and after replacing it every problem with my car was now cured...no more running rich and popping at idle.

Mods on the car are Apexi intake, Apexi GT Spec catback, bonez dp and mp with a highflow cat welded on and PFC.

Just wrote this up in case a lot of you are having problems similar to the TPS not being adjusted right but the TPS is fine. Funny how simple cars are but we always like to think too complicated.

It's kinda funny you brought this up. Earlier this month I had to reinstall all of my emissions to take my smog test, and my air pump clutch wasn't engaging either. I just ended up using a fellow forum member's pump and hardwiring it to the battery. I never run my AC in my car, I guess I just prefer fresh air. But I did turn it on the other day and it never really seemed to get cold. But after reading this, I went out and checked, and sure enough my AC fuse was blown. Thanks FallenCho.

Yep, this is a common problem - had it happen to me as well. The insulation to the airpump's wiring gets brittle with heat and flakes off. If that bare wire touches ground (it has a hot 12v wire) it will pop that fuse.

The stock ECU compensates for the air pump air - since air is injected in the exhaust manifold, the O2 sensor reads it. The ECU knows that it skews the O2 sensor readings, so it compensates for that whenever the ECU is running in closed loop, which is light load and idle.

Bigger Wastegate an air/fuel controller should alleviate those problems.
