Please help!!! Short? or blown C2DI?

I have a 93 Touring RX-7
It has an Autronic SM4
C2DI
4 MSD Ignition Coils

When installed it has a 15 AMP fuze in line between the positive side to the C2DI the negative has no fuze.

When the car is off, ignition off, key out it would have a charge going through the fuze (Before this problem began) I knew because ive gotten shocked by the wires going into the coils. Also when i would take out the fuze to keep from getting shocked then put it back in it would spark while i stuck it in (not fun).

Now when i put a fuze in it blows it consistanly. Right when i put it in. ignition off, car off, key out. It leads me to belive its a short somewere in the system (of coarse). When i hooked up DVOM it has a perfect battery reading going through. (bad bad short). I traced wire going from postive to C2DI (great shape 700 miles on the setup) then the wire going C2DI to negative terminal (also great shape). I also checked all the wires going from C2DI to the ignition coils (great shape).

The question is if the C2DI is dead, gone, stone cold, would i be getting this bad ground/short problem? Could any other wires be in the circuit of this bad ground? The SM4 has its own fuze going from positive to SM4 and its NOT blown so i dont think its wiring going from C2DI to SM4.

Dunno about newer ones, but I've heard many problem stories with the AEM box in the past. Might want to do a search. Most people have shied away from them due to quality problems.

But, it could be anything. A blown fuse means the circuit is shorting to ground somewhere - could be internally in the box, or something else in the wiring from the box to the coils.

The problem is i dont know enough about the C2DI to figure this one out. The wiring seams to be in great shape comming out of the box, from positive to negative, the wiring going into the ignition coils seams great too but there IS a short somewere... What other wiring could it be comming out of the C2DI that i havent already checked that wouldnt have blown any other fuze?

This is the new c2di after the recall but who knows if they still suck...?

The AEM people told me last week that the new units are not ready . They have sent me a lowner to use untill the new design is ready .It is running for now but I am not making any trips .I am RUNNING 4 C4 Jacobs coils and the car will not run much above idle without the AEM box inline I also have a spare on the shelf .When the new units are available I will swap both in . Today is March 1st .

A quote from another forum: The AEM CDI system is SO GOOD, it fires spark plugs in another parallel, identical plane of existance, but not our own. . . .

By new units do you mean splitfire to... or maybe spitfire, couldnt tell i was on a cell phone. This design is comming out in a couple weeks, i talked to the tech support and hes sending me out a loner C2DI. I just ment it was a C2DI that came out after that big recall of them. And it sucked. Anyways there comming out with a splitfire... spitfire thats supposed to replace the C2DI as a 4channel ignition moduel
