Please help... add coolant light keeps coming on.

Hey everyone... I 've got a problem with my FD. Apparently the Add Coolant light keeps coming on after driving on the highway for about an hour when I come to a complete stop.

I checked the coolant level everytime and it's always full when the light goes on... maybe it might be a bad thermostat or somthing because the temp guage fluctuates just a fraction towards the high side but always comes down? anyone ever hear of this...? the car never overheats but i'm afraid to drive it untill i really know what's wrong... my car has 95,000 miles on the original engine as of now. I'm hoping the coolant seals aren't going out... that would really bite. The car starts up normally on cold days/conditons with a little bit of steam coming out the tail pipe, however it doesn't seem to linger around for more than 2 seconds. Any positive feedback would really be appreciated. thanks for you time guys.

put the radiator cap on

then squeeze the lower radiator hose a couple times

then squeeze the top.

see if you need to add water after that.

then try it gently with the cap off.

It may just be a sign of an old car (not to stop you from investigating fully). The 'add coolant' light on my FD (with 145k) is shorted somewhere and it's on all the time now. The thermostat still works, though, and that's the important part....

The coolant level sensor is a really simple design. It usually only goes bad if it has a crack in it (the bolt is plastic), causing the coolant to leak out, or it may just have a bad connection on either end. It is most likely that you have air in your coolant system, causing the coolant light to go off when there are air pockets that pass by it. If you have air pockets, this could also lead to the increases in temperatures in certain spots (hot spots). So, check your coolant caps (coolant filler cap and AST cap) to see if any of the rubber seals are warped. Also, burp your coolant system (look up "burp coolant").

Mine cracked causing it to leak coolant, but then in the process of taking it off, the brittle wire ended up snapping off of the bolt. (pic below)
