Planning first rebuild questions?

I have owned the car for about 5 weeks now and this is my first RX7 I have ever owned. I bought a stock 93 with 48,000 miles and I have already replace the fuel filter, air filter, plugs, NGK plug wires, HKS downpipe, Defi boost;EGT,FP gauges, HKS Turbo timer and silcone vacume lines. I don't believe the car needs a rebuild because it runs good, but I am wanting to upgrade the car soon as in single turbo and a stand alone, so I was wanting to street port it and install better apex seals, before I go single turbo. I was planning on doing 1200cc secondarys and upgrading the secondary fuel rail along with a better fuel pump with the rebuild. What parts do you all recommend? Should i go with 2mm or 3mm seals? and about how much am I looking at in parts price wise? any help would be great, thanks in advance.

Exclamation

SLOW DOWN! YOU MOVE TOO FAST; GOT TO MAKE THE MORNING LAST!
to quote a 60's song by the 5th Dimension........"Feeling Groovy"

Take your mods one step at a time........make sure your Rex is running very good before adding or changing things. Then, if it doesn't run good, you only have to back up one mod. I know it's hard to be patient, but it wins the race (Tortoise & Hare thing?).

If you're just gonna cruze, then rebuild your Rex for longevity as well as speed.

You confussed me there. I am wanting to upgrade the motor so it is less likely to blow when I start adding stuff to it. What do you mean take one mod at a time and then when it goes back track? Wouldn't it be easier and better to build a good motor than it would be to rebuild a blown motor?

atihun:
2mm Hurley Apex Seals:
Where to get them and how much will they run me?
Also do I need other seals and gaskets when the rebuild is done. Like?

Bolt throughs on the engine:
What do you mean?

Cosmo Fuel Pump or Inline Fuel Pump:
Where do I get a Cosmo Fuel pump or what inline to go with?

650 Primaries and 1200 Secondaries:
Where is a good Place to buy these from?

Some Suspension Upgrades:
Like what exactly? What does the mazdaspeed motor thingymajigger do?

Thanks for the help....

dude, your motor has 48k miles on it,
unless the previous owner messed it up in some way,
it's probably VERY GOOD, I would not recommend rebuilding/porting it.

Leave the motor until it blows. porting will give it some more
hp, but it's not worth 6 grand.

It is not worth rebuilding the engine unless it NEEDS to be rebuilt!
Unless of course your super rich, and can throw money away on whatever you want... in whichcase, the prices on parts and such dont matter.

IT sounds like you've done a large ammount of very good reliability mods, and you are probably almost ready for some big ole power adders!

rebuilding an engine, to make it more reliable makes no sense,
becaue the whole point of making it more reliable is so that
you WONT have to rebuild it!

Your engine will not blow just because you add mods to it, unless you are not careful. Yes you should do your mods one at a time, that is excellent advice. If you add the reliability mods first and timely maintenance/upkeep, correct tuning, your engine will last over 100k, even with alot of mods.

I would also only recommend the rebuild only if you have the extra money to blow, or you want to run 500 hp.

atihun:

Hurley Rotary

Yes you need coolant o-rings, possibly like the silicone ones from Hayes Rotary

Bolt throughs on the engine:
What do you mean?
It means that the bolts that they use to secure the "sandwich", the housings together, they drill all the way through to the other side and tighten it together.

Cosmo Fuel Pump or Inline Fuel Pump:
Where do I get a Cosmo Fuel pump or what inline to go with?
You can get the Denso/Cosmo Fuel pump from Shane Racing . The inline fuel pump you can get from Summit Racing or anywhere else, I think the RX7 store on this forum.

650 Primaries and 1200 Secondaries:
Where is a good Place to buy these from?
RX7 store on this forum.

Some Suspension Upgrades:
Like what exactly? What does the mazdaspeed motor thingymajigger do? Motor mounts, toe links, front strut bar, coilovers, and better brakes.

Hope that helps. Spend your money wisely, and make sure that you dyno tune your car/ECU before you blow your engine.

What size turbo do you plan on running?

If your car has been well taken care of you don't need a rebuild just make sure your fuel system is capable.

Your 550 primaries should be fine?

I just pulled and shipped two motors this week both will be rebuilt very large street ports running 3mm carbon seals, and one will be cryo treated for under $6k

You wouldn't need to dowel pin the motor unless you are going for gobs of power.

My advice, I agree with everyone else don't rebuild until you have to,as long as you do things correctly you shouldn't need to, and you can spend that money on other things.

XS engineering T04S
or
KKK Single Turbo

I have also been looking into haltechs a lot lately. This car isn't my daily driver so I am wanting to make it stupid. Kinda the weekend street warrior thing.

If I go that large with a Turbo will I still be ok with stock primaries and 1200cc secondaries? I am not to worried about the primaries becuase with the haltech I could just make the secondaries come online earlier than stock except if i used a small wet shot to help get the turbo going I might want to upgrade it right? I am wanting to learn a lot more about everything before I take another step in my mods. Thanks for the help and keep it coming.

maybe i am getting a little ahead of myself.
