Pipe on Oil Filler Pedestal

Can someone identify this pipe below the oil filler, coming out the back of the pedestal for the oil filler pipe?

Is this something that needs to be blocked off, or is it OK as is?

Crank case vent for a sec gen . My motor was built with a sec gen iron and I run a hose out of the nipple to a filter then from the filter to under the car for a crank case vent . The filter is positioned so the oil that is in the air can drop out and flow back to the motor and not go on the ground .

I was going to say I defiantly never seen that on my motor! Nice to know though.

Interesting. So if that pipe has not been blocked off in some way, it needs to be connected line to return the oil somewhere.

I will see if I can probe it with a wire to determine if it is blocked off.

Any reason I could not just block it off? I have the ReSpeed filler pipe, and still have the PCV valve connected.

The reason I was looking at this, is that I found quite a bit of oil on top of the engine, and it had run down the block, making it appear that the oil pan was leaking.

I asked Rob at Pineapple Racing about this as well.

To paraphrase, this is 3rd gen iron. The 2nd gen ports would not line up for an FD.

The early FD's had this pipe, and it came plugged from the factory.

^ I think I can confirm. My 93 has it, it is plugged and it's the original motor.

I know this thread is a year old but I think I am leaking oil out the same pipe.

When someone said that it is plugged from factory do they mean from within? Or is is capped externally?

Thanks in advance.

The embossed region is either not drilled and the nipple is not there or capped with a rubber cap.
