Pineapple Oilpan, a good upgrade for the money or not?

So I was paging through an old issue of rx tuner ( a great magazine) and saw the artical on the pan and i was just wondering how many people have this pan and what there veiw on it was? I called pineapple racing for some pricing today and I think he said $450 his phone was breaking up.

I can see it being a good investment if you like using an o-ring to seal your oil-pan (no more leaks).
I think they mentioned something about it being able to hold more? and the fins on it are said to aid in cooling...?

I was thinking about getting one also, but may re-think it. $450.00 seems abit pricey

Here is what it does.

It stiffens the motor with the thicker sealing surface. (I don't have exact numbers but it is quite thicker than the stock pan.) When my car was stock/lightly modded, it did'nt drip a bit of oil. Once I had Ralph Friend tune my single it seemed to open up and spit out oil like never before. Ralph and Rob said that it was due to the motor flexing. I'm shure the O ringing helps with the oil problem too. The oil pan holds around 1 more qt of oil. (More oil is good. ) I'll be picking up one and installing it when the motor is freshened up. CJ

The flange is 9mm thick it provides a much stiffer platform for the motor to sit on most cars will start to show engine flex when you up the HP. It works well I have sold/installed a bunch of them no problems.Having less flex is not only good for stoping leaks either consider it a engine girdle.

Considering that they probably did a fair amount of work on making a quality product, and that they probably will not sell a large number of these, they need to recoup their costs and make a little bit of beer money !

I have the pan and I think it's worth the money. You get added engine support and an additional quart of oil. The pan has two plugs for draining, one on each side. I did not order mine with the oil level sender as I am putting in a different oil pressure gauge, and that I check the level every week anyways.

A-spec and pineapple are the only two makers that I can think off. How much is that oil pan brace that rotary extremes sells (I think they are the ones who sell it)? I am thinking to get one myself when I do my oil pan fix in hopes to eliminate those leaks and the extra quart is good too. If I knew it stopped leaks for sure then I'd say, "Sold"

As far as oil pan "flex" goes....if you're really concerned about it call up Steve at Gotham racing, he makes a oil pan brace that costs much less then the $450 asking price. Also I know on my car I'd be worried about ripping that thing off since my car is pretty low as it is, and I know my car isn't as low as a lot of other 7s out there.

Structurally there is a big difference between a brace that bolts to the oil pan compared to one that is integrated with it.

The integrated one is much stronger.

I wouldn't worry about hitting it on anything, and I have yet to have one leak.

All good points, I think "atihun" is probably correct in the pricing. Sometimes I warp back to the 70's when you could buy aftermarket oil pans for V8's for around $100.00
the motor stiffening is a good reason alone for purchase. I just wish someone did'nt call it a girdle, I allways thought of the RX-7 as a cute, firm, young bitch. oops.
