Pilot bearing puller

What do you think about this puller?

I know that there are a lot of posts about using one of AutoZone's pullers for free, but I'm considering buying one for other uses, too.

It looks good to me. I just wonder about the quality of the little arms/jaws. They look to be either aluminum or pot-metal neither of which would be a good material for that application. I suppose you coud fabricate your own replacements later. They really need to be able to hold their form and an edge.

Blah blah, nobody else has answered and I've done enough to know the value of an efficient puller so I thought I'd throw my opionion out there.

Cheers

I bought one on ebay a while back... Wonderful tool. I'll take a pic of the box later today when I get home.

I've used the Autozone puller before, and this looks really similar. It only really works when the tips of the puller are new - after they round down and wear a bit, it doesn't grab as well.

I got the Mazda tool from Mazdacomp a while back for $100ish - after using various other methods for pulling pilot bearings, I was ASTOUNDED how easy the Mazda tool made the job. I actually dug around the garage looking for old e-shafts to pull bearings from - 1 minute and the bearing was in my hand.

I think that you can just buy the tip of the pilot bearing removal tool from Mazda and attach your own slide hammer - that's much cheaper. But, I don't know if you need some special slide hammer or anything.

Mazda tool bar none. And the tip is like $10 cheaper than the whole assembly, so might as well get the whole thing
