Pilot bearing problem further under investigation.

Pulled the trans this morning, once again the pilot bearing is destroyed and the input shaft end is cobbled up with welded on pieces of the bearing, I need to machine the shaft for sure if I choose to use it

What's my options with a JDM trans or does someone have a GOOD source for an affordable one? Also, what year am I shooting for, what is optimal here?

On a somewhat related note the oil leak i've been expierencing isn't the oilpan/turbos like usual, it's the rubber o-ring seal behind the stationary gear assembly, odd eh?

thanks, i r t3h cursed

1st 2nd and 3rd is the same in all the JDM trannies but 4th and 5th are shorter. A lot of track guys love the JDM 4th because it's shorter and quicker on the track. Might lose a little top speed though

It will help if you top out 3rd before the end of the run. I'm not a dragger so I can't say how fast of a quarter that would have to be.

4th is the same. Most, if not all, manual transmissions have a 1:1 4th gear.

I was blowing up pilot bearings consistantly before I got a slightly used 97 JDM trans. Install wasnt any different from my old 93 trans so it shouldnt be an issue. The only difference noticed was that the exhaust bracket is on the right side. It cost $435 and install was pretty painless, with a lift of coarse. It was purchased through a shop in Westminister Ca awhile back called UPFD, the number is 714-890-5153, talk to RJ. Good Luck.

Did you use the existing sensors in the JDM gearbox as well?

What do you think about the 97 synchros/4&5th gear ratios, like driving it any better with that tranny?

On a related note, the service manual says the pilot bearing needs to be inserted 11.5-12.3mm, is that from the very beginning of the e-shaft bore to the beginning of the pilot bearing or from the chamfer?

was that 435 price shipped?!
