Pillar Guage Pods Suck

I have a new gauge on order and want to install it above my boost on the A-pillar. So, I went to a few shops today to see what is available.

The 2-Guage pods I found for the 3rd gen are HUGE. It seems thay are big because they try to mount the gauge in the pod in an such a way that the centerline of the gauge is almost vertical instead of horizontal.

Does anyone know of a pod that mounts the gauges more horizontally?

If not, I think I will mount the new gauge directly above the old...

I still wish Lo-Tek made a full A-pillar replacement for the FD. I've had one in both my 2G DSM's and they look absolutely stock, just with 2 pods molded in. I emailed them about 6 months ago about making one for the 93-95 RX7, but never got a response. If you've never heard of Lo-Tek, check out http://www.gaugepods.com/ (that's Lo-Tek's website).

PS--Feel free to email them and request they make a full A-pillar replacement with 2 pods for the FD.

They do make good stuff, but its not in there best interest to do it if there isn't a market. And they only can make a FULL replacement if it is under 36 inches in length(something around that size i think). I've tried to get them make for the car i owned before this one. I think he said they are limited by there vaccum machine.

Try the gauge holders that go over the center speaker on top of your dash.

Is the 3rd gen RX7 A-pillar longer than 36"? By appearance I wouldn't think so, but then again, I've never measured it.

I understand why they don't make one.......the market would be just too small I would think. Not enough cars to warrant the design and whatnot. But I still wish they'd change their mind.

I bought the tripple gauge pillar from rx7store.net and it replaces the whole thing even though it says it goes over. Just take the stock pillar out and put that one it with a screw at the top to hold it in. The bottom part will hold itself....Russell

i was able to find an Autometer (pretty sure) 3-gauge, A-pillar mounted, gauge pod that replaced the entire cover there so it would look like it was almost stock at summitracing.com

You may want to look for a Border Gauge panel if you don't like A-pillars. I recently changed from my A-pillar to this particular setup:

I've had both of the Autometer 1 and 2 gauge pods, and while I personally don't like the looks of it, you get used to it. I keep my boost and water temp gauges in the pillar pods, and given my height (5' 5"), they are pretty much line of site (don't need to take my eyes off the road to read them). I also have a Saab DIN gauge panel in one of the radio slots and don't like trying to read them at all.

I have the autometer dual pillar and I hate it. With my height (6'1") it makes left hand turns where there is a divider a slight challenge. My friend's autometer tri-pod is much nicer, for my height it barely lifts away from the pillar. My personal favorite though is the A/C relocation. Its really very easy to do if you are willing to put the time in it, everyone always compliments it and thinks it looks stock.
