Anyone got a part number for the rear main oil seal?

Does anybody know where the rear stationary gear seal is, and how to get to it to check for leaks?

It's on the backside of the gear, where it mates to the rear iron. You'd have to pull the trans, clutch, flywheel to get at it. Not fun.

Re: leaky oil pans, we install braces on almost every build we do. I've also found that it helps immensely to get a brand new (ie flat and true) oil pan.

For the record, the original fix did not eradicate the problem. I ended up replacing the pan again and using a pan brace in my garage... been leak-free ever since.

im kinda in the same boat.. if it was a main seal would it leak while the car is off?

my car leaks while its parked and it looks like its coming from the DR side motor mount.... i have the steel one aswell so im hoping it that since i have 90% of the work done...... but all this main seal stuff is scaring me!

side note: which one motor mount replaces the stock aluminum one again? the dr side?

If it is the main seal, and your car is parked on a level surface, there shouldn't be much, if any leakage when the car is off.

But when the car is running, yeah, a healthy leak.

Mine rear main seal leaked after the motor was re-installed, it only left a little oil on the floor after the car was shut off.

Another thing to check: is there any oil running down the left side of the motor?

Sometimes there is a small pipe near the oil fill tube that needs to be capped.

I found out that my rear main seal and possibly the stationary O-Ring are leaking. Im actually happy about that, because im already doing a tranny job and plan on removing the flywheel to resurface, and I wanna replace those as well. I always though my freshly sealed oil pan was leaking again, but wondered why the oil pan was dry all the way around and motor mounts are dry too? I peaked behind the flywheel with a flash light... oil everywhere.
