PICTURES of our road trip to Michigan to pic up my 95 R2! (56k NO)
Well last thurdsday night Aug 28, at 11pm our road trip from Delaware to Michigan began. What was scheduled to be a 12-13 hour ~800 mile drive to go pick up my 95 R2. It was my friend Dan (Scrub) and I, and we were driving a 96 Dodge Ram 2500 Cargo Van (the Raper van)... it was quite a trip!
at about 12:30 on the beltway around Baltimore i decided to take my special "shortcut" which eventually got us stuck into a big *** tie up on I95...
At about 2am Friday after our first 200 miles, we stopped at a Sheetz to get some breakfast... Dan decided to jump ontop of the van and be retarded...
At about 5:45am i wake up in the passenger seat to Dan pulling the van to the side of the road... I smelled something very familiar from working on RX7s... ohhh it's burning coolant! yes, our radiator cap on the van decided to crap out on us, and this was the result... Damnit Dan, you blew it up!
Now that we had to deal with overheating issues for the 1200 miles left in the trip, we decided to put a sign on the back of van to warn the other motorists on the road. (Notice our racing decals and lisence plate holder)...
But we did make it up to Muskegon, MI with no real problems at about 2pm friday. We checked out the car and decided that we would be taking it home! We went and got the U-Haul trailer i had reserved at a local U-Haul station, and at around 10pm or so, we started on our way home, 95 R2 in tow!!!
But first we decided to stop at a local car wash and flush out the radiator... don't worry, we disposed of the old coolant "properly"...
OMG MY CAR IS BEAUTIFUL!
We made it home the rest of the way without incident really... the van still had some overheating issues, but we dealt with them... here we are sitting at a rest stop waiting for the van to cool down a little...
Another of the sexy beast!
Look at that assssssssss! (that guy in the Taurus sure did like the car!)
Well we made it home and the car is now in my garage until i get some of the little things taken care of, and get it inspected and registered and all that... I'm working hard to make her like new again. After i get her on the road and all polished up, and Dan gets his motor back in, we'll have a big photoshoot and post those pics in here...
hope you enjoyed the pics as much as we enjoyed the trip! it was something i'll never forget! Right, Dan?! haha!

Nice pics! The van is killin' me!
Is something wrong with the R2? Seems like you could have just driven it back.

I did the same thing as you. Drove down to South Carolina to pick up mine. I was sneaky though. I did a two day in town rental on the trailer to save a lot of money We just towed it all the way down empty. Those things are so heavy they actually tow pretty well empty.
Wish I would have known there would be a 95 R2 for sale in Muskegon less than a year later....
Road trips to pick up cars are the best. My rx-7 was the 3rd major trip like that I've been on.

Thanks for all the comments guys, it really was a fun trip
and Dale, there is a slight boost issue that i'm trying to find. I believe it's a vaccum hose somewhere... but other than that, even if the car had been in perfect running condition, i would have rather trailered it the 800 miles home, rather than drive it. Just the way i am **** about things like that but it made it more fun! you should have seen how many people were slowing down and rubber-necking on the highway home to check out the car! We got a lot of thumbs up

Hey, I work in Muskegon and recognized where the pics were taken. I've also met the previous owner and saw the FD you bought (nice). What's funny is a red FD just went up for sale at a used car dealer about a mile down the road from where one of the pics was taken. Only other one in town aside from mine that I know of. Have fun with your new car.

This trip will definatly be remembered for a long time. We would post the video of the trip but it's a little big. That was the most fun I've had in as long as I can remember. Apparently I blew up the radiator, but I think the previous driver (charlie) weakened the system when he was driving The only other minor incident was the horn that I broke too. Once we get his car up and running properly. Their will be a lot more pictures to be seen. We also had a lot of people laughing at us on the way up....I think they read the sign.

If you wanted to meet up or something or if you're going to be up there, let me know. Dan will probably be coming up with me as well, and he's always good for a laugh, lol

THe price is classified We will all have to meet up. Right now 4 out of our 5 Rx-7's are out of commission. Within the next 2 weeks they will all be running with the exception of Jays car which was in a flood. I think Charlies car has about 55 thousand miles on it and the interior is beautiful. Seems pretty flawless. Suade seats are so comfortable and sticky! Now he just needs to change his Avitar....but then no one will recognize him when he posts

Thanks again for all the compliments, the car has 56500 miles, and the interior is pretty flawless. The paint is great too, minus the rock chips. As soon as the engine is all taken care of she will be almost perfect!
and no, sadly that is not the bangbus, but damnit i'm going to try next time! didn't even think about that! haha...
