Looks Awesome!!. Glad to see you got it back!! What type of front spoiler did your FD have on it when the car was wrecked (it's in the photo)?

Wow, that's not a bad list of things they f'd up. I had my car repainted (no accident or anything, just hadn a lot of dings, scratches and such) and they ... lesse... broke my passenger side mirror (ie the little motor or something in there, anyways, now the mirror is in there, but it just moves around), and had reversed my window controls.. whcih I simply reversed around.

But other than that, it was pretty decent.

O.. btw, went from the RX7 silver, to the gun metal silver in the S2000s.

Btw, atleast from the pics, the car looks awesome.

My car's accident condition was similar to yours, except the damages were all on the front passenger side. I also just got my car back last week and was so happy. Basically my whole front end got repainted, no peel marks, but I did notice a small "drool" mark under the passenger side mirror.

Pics will be up soon............

BTW, nice car and VRs rule!!

Yeah it looks great considering. I don't want to sound like a ***** complaining about little things like spots of orange peal but I'm sure that you guys can relate. Every little blemish stands out to me. You can't really see the orange peal in that light, or in the pics, but under my halogen lights it shows up really well.

The reason for the orange peel on all new cars including mercedes, bmw's is b/c the paint are water based with high solids content. It's more durable but yep the texture. My car was painted with high solids paint and then wet sanded and polished at least twice over. It still has some texture but only if you look closer. Otherwise, you'd know immediately that it's a better than factory paint.

The last painter used a different paint on my bumper and he thinned it out such that no orange peel showed up. But then the paint had hairline cracks within a year.

This time, with the complete new paint job, the guy didn't thin it out for durability and hence the texture. He said to come back and he can buff it out after it's dry for 3 months but I don't have the time.

The OEM paint was done back in the early 90s when paints were not water based and Mazda had a special process where they put the car on a rotissere and sprayed it within very thin layers of paint while rotating it to prevent runs. The end effect is a very shiny super smooth paint but then the paint had problems as alot of us know. I don't know if they're still using that process any more though.

Yes I'm happy to be back on the streets... wait were you talking about the car?

The front lip was a 99 spec, the previous owner put it on, I think he bought it from Jason at rx7store.net - I have an R1 lip brand new painted red (the body shop bought it and painted it by accident even though I asked them not to). I can't decide whether to leave the lip off (so I can pull into my driveway forwards), put it on, or buy a 99 spec and put that on.

As far as I know it is the color code for the original VR. The car had been repainted sometime before the accident with a VERY nice finish. There was no orange peal, at all, except for a few spots on curved surfaces like behind the doors. It has a good finish but not as good as it was.

This is what it looked like with the 99 spec lip. The paint was very nice but there were chips. Plus there were cracks in the front bumper so I was planning on having it repainted soon. The lip had a big chunk taken out of it from the previous owners encounter with a Racoon.

Thanks again for all the compliments guys.

-Charlie
