Pics of my Larger AST

Everyone,

Just wanted to share a few pics of my new custom AST. As you can see by the pics, I've compared it to my old AST which is identical in size to the Pettit AST. In addition to the extra capacity, my new tank has a billet neck that accomodates a standard Stant-style cap and the guy who fabbed it for me makes custom radiators for the street rod community, so the welds are absolutely beautiful.

Let me know what you think!

Hey Blue Rex,

I paid quite a bit for this one since it was a one off (~$190 polished), but I could probably get the guy to lower the price (maybe in the $170 range) if we could get a group of additional buyers. I'd be willing to organize it if we have enough interest. All I'd need to know up front is if people want a 13 or 16 psi cap. What do you think?

Hey Scott,

I gave the old one to one of our Phoenix members to test. I was convinced that the neck was warped since I'd hear a faint hissing noise on shutdown. I told him to pressure test it before putting it on his car.

Great to hear from you. Hope that you, Matt and the other Tucson boyz will be heading to Sevenstock on October 10th!

Let me know if you have any other questions.

1234rotor. I will try to get you a ballpark idea on how much an unpolished one might go for. I never asked him how much of the price was for polishing, although I would guess around $20-$25. I'll check!

The guy who makes these should put the prong on the bottom. The prong holds it in place more securely. Looks like a nice AST.

Basically you're adding about an additional pint or two of coolant to the system. Extra capacity can't hurt, especially in hotter climates like the Southern U.S. That's the main reason I had him build it deeper.

As far as the positioning post on the bottom goes, again, I opted not to have it on since you need some type of stock bracket on you cross member to guide it.

Can anyone give me guidance on setting up a group buy? I think if we can tie down 10 orders I may just do this.

You're definitely invited Adam. I'd just have to see if I have a stock bracket in my garage that I could use to test fitment. I just don't want to sell anyone this tank and then not have it fit under their hood. I'll take a few pics tonight and post them with my Peter Farrell IC.

Thanks. You may not have a problem with the stock bracket. The Pettit ast is shorter than stock, so your new one may fit.

More pics!

Guys,

Here's a few pics of the tank installed in my car. Let me know if you'd like to see any other angles. The one weird shot is taken from my alternator looking at the IC. I probably have about 1/8 of an inch between my tank and IC.

I opted for a Stant-style cap without the pressure relief lever. Initially I used the pressure relief lever style, but found that it would not hold 13 psi. When I went back to the place of purchase we tested 6 pressure relief caps that they had on shelf and 5 of the 6 would only hold about 11 psi. However the standard caps were spot on their 13 pressure reading, hence my decision.

Anyway, here are the pics.

CantGoStraight,

Ahhhh.... looks sweet, I'll give you that, but we're talking ASTs here, not thermostat housings. Nice job BTW. Did you polish it yourself? So, are you interested in an AST to match the same blingliciousness level as that housing?
