Pics of Engine bay washing

I bought some Gunk brand Engine Brite (Advance Auto Parts, $1.68 for a can) and went to work on my engine bay today. I'm somewhat please with the results, but take a look at the pics, then I'll tell you more.
This was before the wash, with all the filth, etc.

And this is prep for the wash. I took of both intakes, and plugged the hoses with a mix of ziploc bags, folded trash bags, and electrical tape. (i.e. as ghetto as I could)

The stuff is real simple to use. Literally just spray on, wait 15 mins, then hose off. I took that 15 minutes to remove the filters from my intake pipes, and spray down the pipes as well. Needless to say, they didn't clean up very well. But most of the stuff cleaned up ok.

I'd probably do it again, just because it was cheap and easy, but I'm dissapointed it didn't do a better job of the UIM, and particularly the intake pipes. I even scrubbed those, because they were real bad. But it's better than it was, and it was only $1.68, so I can't complain too much.

Looks better than it did. Not too bad I'd say. Try maybe a few more washings and see what happens.

Yeah, I figure I'll probably do it again. I was just depressed by the lack of cleaning of the UIM and the intakes.

Here is my original thread, the link to the pics of the engine bay before I painted is unavailable. The rest should be there. I used High temp ceramic coated engine paint (rated 500 Degrees). Just wash the manifold, let it dry and paint. I didnt take the manifold off to do it. Very carefuly taped around it. I got a large plastic garbage bag, cut it open, put around my manifold, then painted. I had mineral spirits handy to remove any overspray. If you look at my manifold in person you would never know that I did not remove it to paint it. If you have the facility and ability that makes sense.

BTW, I did this in early March, the paint does *NOT* burn off like what you hear on the forum.

Not to be an A$$hole but I think it he used black aerosol paint, and by the looks of it semi-gloss or glossy. I would have used BBQ paint, but his still looks good.
I don't see any great pains in doing this other than removing the manifold to get it 360 degrees.

zero have u thought about painting the intercooler piping as well since its a little off compared to the manifold/ Im seriously considering this, as I want the black and blue engine bay, and Im looking for some more info on it.

What abotu heat dissipation? any problems after the manifold was painted?

Steve

911GT2, sorry about hijacking your thread, I really had good intentions, but then again I always have good intentions.

Steve,

This paint was designed to dissapate heat faster since its laced with ceramic. I didn't measure a before/after so I cant tell you. I dont notice any difference either way.

As far as painting the elbow, I thought about it, but in person you can tell the texture is different from the manifold anyway, the paint color is not that noticable. I'll probably leave it as is. I just got my water injection set up, so the pipe has be tapped, dont want to mess with it now.

and oh yea, if you like the stock look, just clean it with steel wool. Just be careful of the shavings.

Oh one more thing about pressure cleaner and degreaser. Works great on just about anything. I'll show some before and after pics when I clean my bay out. (some light scrubbing before you pressure clean makes a big difference too)
