Picked Up Malloy Reman - strange note

Picked up a reman from Ray. Cool guy to deal with. They've the RX8 in the show room.

Then engine has a tag that says if you use synthetic, it voids the warranty. From the horse's mouth.

So why are people running synthetic?

BTW- RX8 looks great from the front. Rear is ho hum. Interior is very airy and nicely set up.

The door, when slammed, is tinny sounding. The Nipponese still hasn't learned how to make a car sound expensive. VW were able to do it to their lowly Golf. Why can't Mazda do it?

Talking

it's all about the WEIGHT SAVINGS!!!!

Seriously...sound deadening material can really add on the weight.

Don't make it sound like Japan has stupid engineers. It's like saying the american car companies still haven't learned to make a reliable car.

Mazda has never backed synthetic oils for rotaries.

The warranty is only something like 12 months/12,000 miles so after that you can use what you want.

I'm going back to dino oil. No REAL reason, but my engine was bleeding oil like a stuck pig a few months after switching to synth. And my turbos went bad (oil seals). This was on a 65K car NEVER boosted over 10lbs. Not to say that synth was the reason... I mainly made the switch "just to do it". Car did run smooth though!

Mr. Ferrell recommended "any old cheap 10W30" when I bought the car. Maybe I'll just do that.

Yes, definitely do not switch to synthetic if you have been using dino for 70k+ miles. Since it's thinner, it will expose any leaks your car has (unless you want to go ahead and fix them). Not just on rotaries either.

I can't explain why, but I had a tiny oil leak that disappeared when I changed to synthetic. I thought it would get worst. Now it doesn't leak at all.

I was told to use dino oil for the break in, and after that, it doesn't matter what it is, as long as it's oil. This was from Skip at KDR.
