This must be a pretty common combination. I found that after I installed the SMIC that the bracket on the IC was NOT in the correct location to mount the Pettit AST on it.

If you have run into this same problem how did you resolve it? I started to fabricate a bracket extension but it does not look like it will work well.

I can't remember if the Pettit is the same as the tri-point, I'll assume there are in mounting tab design. All I had to do was take my trusty dremel tool and make the hole for both a little longer (elongated) in the directions needed to make the bolt then slip through there.
