PFS SMIC and Apexi Intakes
PFS SMIC and Apexi Intakes
I recently purchased a PFS intercooler off the board and thought I would throw a few pics out there. I was running hard intake pipes and dual apexi's w/ the stock intercooler, but with the install of the PFS smic I anticipated I would have to adjustment the placement of the intakes a bit. The placement is not ideal, but then again the original position was just above the radiator fans.
I'm beginning to wonder if I should just replace the apexi intakes with the PFS system.
Here are the pics.

I am not a fan of the hot air intakes.
IMO obtaing a PFS CAI is either expensive (if you buy new) or a hard item to find used. I had that set up BTW: The PFS CAI with the PFS SMIC which I bought then used and they came together. I never used the CAI because i didn't like it robbing air from the IC, besides I already had a CAI.
I have an old school M2 (the metal ones) and it fits great. These are much easir to find used and they do not look out of place.
Just my $0.02

I'm strongly considering selling the apexi's for some type of partially closed or ducted intake setup. I do like the design of the M2 intake, but wasn’t sure about fitment....sounds as though the PFS and the M2 fit just fine together
I suppose it is a bit of a trade off. In the case of the PFS CAI and PFS SMIC I would assume a decrease in mass air flow rate passing through the intercooler (air cooling the compressed air) due to consumption by the intakes. The trade off of course would be cooler pre-charged air for a loss in efficiency across the intercooler. I think?

you ever thought of the hks racing intakes (rs). they point in the other direction of the apexi's and they fit the v-mounts really good, so they wouldn't be a concern with your set up.

Yes, brand new they were expensive. I even believe the CF one was more than $550 new I'm not sure, but it seems to me when the M2 site was up I remember it being way up there. I bought mine used at an extreemly low price. It was damaged on the bottom. I have since repaired / reinforced it to better than new at the mounting points. I'm very happy with it though. The only knock I have ever heard was the filters tend to slip off the tubes inside, and I also heard later models had longer tubes. They came with big K+N filters new and was possibly a problem because of oil on the tubes or not tightening the filters correctly.
