Pfc tuning

OK guys i am in the process of buying a pfc. There is no one around were i live that knows how to work much less tune a rx7. I do not know much about tuning. I have done all the work on my 7 in the past i have installed and pulled the motor, I put on downpipe, smic, fluidline rad, ypipe, greddy profecII, greddy turbo timer, and boost gauge. My question is will i be able to tune the pfc on my own? What would help me out in the tuning process? How much help would the datalogit be? There is a gar tuning place in town with wideband and a dyno. I am shure they haver never worked on a fd. Could they relly mess **** up or should they be able to do it? I would rather do it my self but not for shure if i can. Thnaks guys

you can tune yourself. it's not rocket science, but it's not something to jump into casually of course, or you'll be blowing engines.

you need a datalogit for the PFC because the datalogit is basically a 3rd party, consumer available PFC interface to give end users the power of the PFC exel tuners.

you will also need a wide band if you are going to tune, you might as well buy your own in car one so that you can wire it into the datalogit.

as for someone tuning your car that has never tuned an FD, i'd say they will probably blow the engine. but just because there isn't a tuner in town doesn't mean there isn't one within 8 hours or so who can do FD's. did you ask in the regional forum?

I love working on my car so i would like to do this as well. When you say that i need a wide band that can go in the car were might i be able to buy this at? Does rx7store have them. As i relly like there service.

I know not to many people say thanks to the guys that help them out. But i would like to say thanks to everyone that has helped me on the Here. If it were not for this fourm my car would have allredy been sold. So thanks GUYS

If your in springfield then you might as well drive the 8 hours to Ft. Worth to see Steve at Gotham for a session. head to OKC (5hrs)and take I-35 south (3hrs).

there are several in car wide band systems. FJO, tech edge, AEM... you would have to probably set a few math parameters on the datalogit to get it to properly interpret the signal from the wide band, after that you are good to go. you might as well invest in one if you really want to tune, but i'd still make the drive to Gotham for initial tuning if you are that close.

There are alot of widebands that will work with the datalogit. I can always give you a good timing map and you would just have to adjust the A/F's. Its not hard to tune, just takes some time to learn.

yep, here is info on the AEM unit being used with the datalogit, for example.
