Is the pettit thermoswitch the same as the FC thermoswitch?

I want to change my thermoswitch, but not sure exactly which one to get....Pettit has this 185 degree switch on their site:

http://pettitracing.com/rx7/a_fanswitch.htm

Is this the same as the FC thermoswitch people recommend putting in, or different? Which one is better?

Thanks,

Ian

If somehow they are different at all, it doesn't matter. (My guess is they are identical). Both will be substantially better than the stock t/s.

My 1994 FD keeps the fans running for about 10 minutes after driving...does anyone know if the new thermoswitch would affect this?

Just to be clear, if you mean the fans run for 10 minutes after TURNING THE IGNITION OFF, the answer is no.

I just assumed that someone had done the "fan mod" to his car.

The thermoswitch's purpose in life is to kick the fans to the next higher speed should the ECM or AC require the fans to be on and the thermoswitch is triggered by the appropriate temperature. Stock is 226 Def F and the FC is 208 Deg F (if I remember correctly). The thermoswitch cannot turn on the fans as it activates a relay that only applys another ground tap to the fan windings.

The second subject is regarding the cooling fan modification that was a recall item in 93 and part of 94 and factory installed in 94 and on. This modification provided for fan operation for 10 minutes after ignition off if engine temperature was 226 Deg or higher for at least 2 minutes before ignition was turned off.

The question is if the thermoswitch activation is coincident with the 2 minute timer... Seems as though it is, due to a tap from the thermoswitch goes to the "E" teminal of the Cooling Fan Control Module and the trigger temperature is 226 deg F in both cases. I think it is a good asumption if the FC or like thermoswitch is installed, the 10 minute cooldown operation will be at the lower switch temperature if on for 2 minutes.

I installed the FC thermoswitch and have not yet had the fans on after ignition switch is off. I also have the coolant modification on my car and have verified it operates correctly by grounding the Check Connector for two minutes.

185 degrees is much better than 208 degrees for obvious reasons

I have the fan mod with the Miata TS, and it's unaffected.
