Question Performance Auto's

I have an FD3S RE Auto and want to squeeze a little more poke out of it.
BUT
I am told that the Apexi PFC cannot run with the autobox and that the autobox will not take much more power than it already has.
SO

1. does anyone know the facts about the PFC (or other ECUs) and the autobox so that I can remap when the time comes

2. does anyone know how much power the autobox can take or anything about modifying the auto tranny for higher power. i have considered switching to manual but everywhere I look I am told this is a nightmare job and best avoided. plus, i'd like to drag and the autobox is the best for that so presumably i should stick with it.

thanks

1. The PFC works with the auto, but you do lose the hold function. I believe the PFS ecu (aka the Purple Motor Eater) allows the hold function but it is crude technology these days.

2. Please search....you'll find most people start experiencing problems after 300 rwhp.

3. Please read the links in the FAQ thread regarding manual swaps, they are not really nightmare jobs.

4. The auto the FD comes with should NOT be considered better than the manual for drag racing....

Thanks, Ryn

sounds like some of the myths are true and some are not - never sure how to use the hold function anyways.

thanks for the info

Hold allows you to hold 1st,2nd, and 3rd gear individualy.
Hold mode on you can select the gear you want and it stays there, allowing you to upshift /downshift when you want to.

Learning to use the 'hold' function properly is where you start wringing out the true performance of the auto tranny. Most people bash the auto <shrugs> all I can say is they've not ridden in one that had a driver that knew what to do.
Frankly, most people that first see my car and say, "Oh....it's an automatic...?" and then they after they ride in it, they say, "THAT is an automatic???" That's not bad at all!"
(and yeah, usually followed by, "If THAT is an automatic, what must a manual be like?")
sigh.....
