aw man~ so either way I'm gonna need $700 for this ECU upgrade, there isn't a possible way for my shop to reprogram it?

U don't want just anyone to touch/re-program your ecu.
My personal thinking is that a street port is something you might as well get done while your engine is apart, but it's a preference thing. If you DO go street port, you are limited to preprogrammed ecu's from Gforce or Pettit, as M2's and XS's do not cover that.
Used ecu's go for anywhere from $375 - $500, depending on range of coverage (limited/unlimited). The important thing to remember is that each car is different, so if you buy a 2nd or 3rd hand ecu, chances are it's not exactly tailored to your mods. If you ever upgrade, it would also be in your best interest to send back teh ecu to get updated also

Nope, they don't really "re-program" the stock ECU chips. Most of them add a "daughter board" which allows them to use their programmed chips.

However, it's all still in the stock ECU housing so there is no re-wiring involved.
