peeling 93 plastics recall question

Hi all,

I've read in multiple threads and blogs that 1993 interior plastics are prone to peeling, etc. Also that the 94+ models fixed that issue.

I have a 93 RX7 with only 28K miles. So far i have NO peeling and my interior looks great. Is my car an anomaly? Or is it still destined to peel someday?

I also wonder if it was fixed in the recall. Any thoughts?

My experience wasn't an issue of peeling. The flat smooth surface was, essentially, painted. IMO it looked better than the more durable 94+ interior, but it scratched easy...very easy. The low miles suggest that the car was little used. Unless you bubble wrap yourself when you drive, it'll happen eventually with 'normal' use. When it does there are threads describing a durable fix.

It wasn't a recall; It was a TSB, however. The parts were improved or fixed during the 93 production run. I've never had a problem with mine. And I agree that the 93 finish looks and feels better than 94+

I think it will peel with scratches and heavy wear. If you had dropped $35k in '93 and your dash plastics are wearing you probably take the car to the dealership and complain, hence the recall. I wouldn't worry about it. Take care of it and I'm sure it will be fine.

Thanks guys. Reading all the 'plastics' threads just made me paranoid.
The interior honestly is what sold the car.

You can see this first photo of someone's panel with the chipped/peeling paint:

It's an easy thing to handle once it happens by just re-finishing the interior pieces.

a, it wasn't a recall

and b, it is quite possible your car has had some of the interior plastics replaced. just because it only has 28k on the odometer doesn't mean the warranty history isn't the size of a phone book, although if it was an adult owned car that was cared for, it probably isn't
