hope you enjoyed tx emmission 101.

i used to be an inspector... by if you dont' do at least 1 every 30 days. you lose it and gotta take the 2day class againl... **** that... i'm lazy. ROFL. doign my own inspections FTMFW

seriously?

you HAVE NO CLUE what your talking about.
i just bought a car... for me to even register the car you need to have inspection FIRST, to have inspection you only need insurance and ID...then they give you a slip to prove the car was inspected and take it to the DMV for registration.

all of this is to REGISTER a car in a city, just for inspection you only need insurance and ID.

most of my friends in ATX have no problems getting inspection in killeen. they do so because they use it as another excuse to visit family and friends when they arent working.

2 speed roller test has no bearing for exemption of ANY drivetrain platform....

being restricted to inspect in the city the vehicle is registered is FALSE.

safety/emissions inspection does not need proof of registration.

any NEW car is exempt from emissions testing for 5 years and must be no older than 3 years to be considered a New car.

BACK ON TOPIC:
ignore what this dude just said. i can prove it to you.

come down to killeen you'll have absolutely no problems with inspecting the car.

hell if you want, PM me and we can set something up

Anyone passed TX emissions with and SMB metallic cat? I like the reviews I've read of the SMB cat, but I've seen that in some other states, some people are having trouble passing emissions with it.

So you are saying that I can get my FD inspected in Kileen, and then bring that inspection cert to Austin and they will accept it as valid for registration? Won't they see that it isn't from an Austin shop, and therefor not a stringent, and reject it?

/still registered out of state
//wishes I lived 1 mile north of where I do, where emissions are not required test
///will never pass in current setup

I passed with a knightsport metallit cat.

I do have an airpump.

I think you will pass with the stock cat and stock ECU. But most of the time you need the airpump to pass visual.

No, you can't do that. You have to have your car inspected in the county you live in, or in a county with the same emission restrictions. I'm not sure how they tell but, if you are seen driving frequently in the DFW area and your inspection sticker is from a neighboring county with different rules you can be cited. I'm guessing there is a visual difference in the windshield sticker but I don't really know.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, and to do so as a Newbie is an eyebrow raiser as well, I know. I need help and found this forum in my Googlings, so figured I'd see if some of you guys could help me out with some ideas/options.

I have this situation: person from PA trying to get a license in TX. Travis county, specifically. He's being told he can't get a license until he registers his car in TX, and can't register obviously until he has it inspected. It won't pass inspection here, thanks to the super strict emission regulations.

So, going along with the flow of this OLD (again, sorry for digging it up) thread, is it truly a valid option to pop a county over and test there, or any one know of any specific shops here in Austin or even in a county nearby that can help us solve this issue. To get his exhaust to pass, he expects it to cost him a good grand, and that's money we don't have right now.

Not asking for anyone to list names publicly if it might get someone in trouble, PM's are good for conversations like that. I know I'm an unknown here, and talking about stuff like this sometimes makes people very leery about giving out too many specifics, and I expect that. We're kind of floundering right now though, this issue has kind of caught us by surprise. I appreciate any help, even if its just to point out places/companies to avoid. He can't get hired where he is trying to go w/o a TX drivers license, and this has really put a kink in current plans -- I can't support the two of us alone. (Well, I guess technically I could, but I really would have a problem with resorting to hooking to pay for car repairs, lol. Though, there Could be a catchy slogan in there somewhere... "Hey big boy, want to help me buy a new exhaust via exhausting measures?" lol

Ok. Rant aside, thanks for reading anyway.

One doesn't need to own a car to get a drivers license in Texas, that said, I would not show up to take a driver test in an unregistered car. Can you not loan him yours or reant a car for him??

Stickers are a differenet color. Now use in the land of the free can drive into dallas every day but a cop pulling up our plates will see that the car is registered in an outside county. Just buy a second home out of town.
