Passenger-Side Radiator Fan failed? Relay perhaps?

hey all... ok, i'm looking to replace my whole fan assembly again, failed passenger-side fan... is there a chance a failed relay would cause only one of the fans to not work at all, and the drivers-side fan works normally? i'm not looking forward to pulling the whole assembly once again, is there any diagnostic procedure i can try to test that fan before i start pulling everything apart once again? thx all...

sure. i'm speaking in general terms here, but first locate the connector that goes to the fan motor and apply +12Vdc across the connector. if the fan comes on, then the fan & motor are GOOD, and it could possibly be the relay.

next would be to check the relay. you'll have to consult the wiring schematics to check it, but you should be able to apply +12Vdc to one of the wires to enable the relay, then that would turn on the fan (which you know is good, b/c you checked it FIRST).

if the relay is good, then my next guess would be the temperature sensor that activates the fan. you'll have to check the manual to figure out when the fan comes on. generally, one fan will come on for the radiator, and the other one will come on when you're running the A/C. with the A/C on, it needs to pull more air thru for both the condensor & the radiator, whereas, generally, if the A/C is off, the one fan is usually sufficient to pull enough air thru for the radiator alone (but the other fan may also come on, too, if the temps are high enough that the one fan isn't cooling it down enough).

keep in mind that this is a GENERAL procedure for what you may want to check. i don't have a shop manual handy right now, so consult your shop manual to get the specific connectors & relays to check. hope this helps.
