Thx bajaman!
a little more info: ran the car down the freeway about 20 miles before the test so it was nice and hot.. let it idle in the pkg lot for about 10 minutes waiting for the tech to do the paperwork. it went right on the rollers and passed I was shocked.. LOL... in california we now have an added $10.00 fee for fuel system vapor test.. what a joke.. so the test cost $52.00 but I did it without alcohol or any tricks so its possible for a rotary to pass california smog the legal way.

pretty good man... HC's measure unburned fuel which you have very little of which means that your burning all of your fuel=good. CO% is your rich indicator wich will damage your cat... thats almost perfect. when CO% is low NOx will be high. this indicates combustion chamber temperature. this is a little high wich could mean anything from a clogged EGR, a bad cat or a oxygen sensor goin bad. overall this is a pretty good running car. congrats man... let me know if you have any questions

Hey smog-guy707.. Thx for the reply. the egr was replaced last year along with a new bonez cat from Rx7.com and a new bosh 02 sensor. everything has about 500 miles on it so I guess things are ok. so how can I get the nox % down.. I don't drive the car much so will some freeway runs help?

Hey Jeff,
I live in SF, and I've attached a couple smog results just for comparison purposes.
The first one is from my 93 Base Montego Blue, a week before selling it locally. It had all stock emissions, stock precat, stock main cat, stock ecu and my big GReddy Evo2 exhaust with about 110000 miles on the cat and a few thousand miles on a rebuild.
The second one was done July 2007 on my current 93 SS Touring with the stock ecu, Efini downpipe, stock cat with 150000 miles on it, and RB dual tip exhaust.
I had fresh oil, plugs, fuel filters on both cars at the times of the tests, and both cars had the stock ignition systems.
Both days were comfortably warm, sunny days in San Francisco.
Thanks for posting, it's nice to be able to compare some Cali results, and Congrats one again.

Hey juicyjosh. thx for the smog results. california smog is a bitch to pass. next time I am going to change my plugs and oil before the test and see if the numbers get even cleaner. I think the Hks twinpower ignition is helping out a lot with burning the extra fuel giving me better numbers.
Hey Adam C.. the cheep bastard air intake kit workes great! the smog tech looks at the stock box and dose'nt even think the car has mods. your air intake is a must for california guys who want to look stock and have a HP intake .

the only way to lower NOx is to run richer... but that will raise CO%, which will evetually end up killing your cat. the only thing i can think of is to adjust your timing with a PFC but thatw ill lag your perfomance. nothing to worry about too much. i was goin to say a down pipe but you seem to have that already. NOx and CO% go hand in hand. the only way they will both be low is with a new car... yuoll be alright

smog-guy707 thx for all your advice. I think I will just drive the car a little more and see how it goes. right now the car runs great . plenty of power and a clean burn . no smell at all out of the exhaust.

to all the guys in california . I would install a Hks twinpower ignition to help with smog . I think it helps a great deal with the unburnt fuel in the combustion chamber and will keep the plugs clean as well and its carb approved.
