parts parts parts

Ok, so i've pretty much spent the last 48 hours reading up on everyone's favourite car and some parts which i'll eventually get around to fixing up, and i was wondering the differences in certain parts (which don't seem to be covered in detail in the FAQ's)

1) I was looking at some ACT clutches, whats the differences between a 4 puck, a 6 puck clutch and say this this ? and can someone clarify hub springs?

2) the ACT aluminium flywheel is 9.5 pounds, which is the same weight as the racing beat ones, why the 200 dollar price difference?

3) I'll probably get a rebuild depending onthe engine condition, other than online stores (like rx7store), are there good places to get street ports and 3mm apex seals around the bay area? (I tried looking, but the bay is full of european car groups like SF krew, hey aaron lee, wassup long time no see lol)

4) Can anyone reccomend a decently priced intercooler? the apexi ones are close to 2grand before tax and shipping! ><

thanks in advance for any replies (especially if this is... noobish at best)

There are tons of IC options less than $2,000. It depends on whether you wanna go SMIC or FMIC, high HP or moderate HP, compatibility with other mods (i.e. large SMIC require battery relocation). Look into ASP SMICs, and I guess Greddy front mounts if you want to take that route. RXstore.net is a good place to start.

It stands for stock mount. Yeah, I don't really like Hondas, there are way too many of them in Vegas, just like everywhere else I guess. I would drive an NSX though

i actually think the s200 looks nicer than the NSX, though honda stopped making them... this year or last, (why must they kill the classics? they should kill pickup trucks and hummers in any case)

any other advice on the clutch and flywheel?

act xt street/strip clutch... and the flywheel is depending on what your use of the car is and how often you drive it. list your mods and what you want out of the car.

1) I have run a spec sprung 6 puck for years now and really like it. For driveability I don't recommend running an unsprung 6/4 puck, like an ACT.

2) RB stuff is pricey, but high quality. pretty sure their lwfw has a replaceable friction surface plate (i have an SR motorsports which is similar to RB) whereas the ACT do not. Also, you will need an AT FD counterweight and hardware to bolt it up, figure 100-125 more from malloy mazda if the lwfw doesnt come with it.

4) I recommend you keep your eyes on the used parts classifieds for a SMIC or FMIC, whichever you prefer. Nothing wrong with buying a used IC, I bought my M2/ASP Race SMIC used about 5 years ago and love it.

5) Sorry for so many acronyms, if you need any spelled out just let me know

Well I'm looking for a little more on the driveable side while boosting it a little over stock power, as of now i've made a rough list of things (Please do give reccomendations because I'm still pretty new when it comes to parts and tuning)

Stage 2 or 3 engine port

Koyo radiator

GRedyy 2 Row intercooler

Apexi super AFC2 fuel controller (This IS needed right? Lest fuel gets too lean, along with an upgraded fuel delivery system)

GReddy Profec B Spec 2 boost controller

Downpipe (any specific reccomendations?)

Racing Beat aluminium flywheel (What counterweights do i need?)

Other Stuff:
Clutch reccomendations?
what would i need for an upgraded fuel delivery system? Fuel injectors etc?

Did you read my post up above? I answered a few of your questions.

Also, I recommend an Apexi Power FC over the antiquated afc2, and a greddy profec b type s over the spec 2. the spec 2 is very inconsistent when it comes to boost control, which is obviously dangerous.

last thing, you dont need a 4 or 6 puck clutch for your power level, and they are a nightmare to drive. Look into either an ACT street/strip setup or ACT extreme setup, both use stock discs but upgraded pressure plates. much much more pleasant for the street.

Get the ACT Heavy duty Street/strip setup. You'll hate yourself if you get a 4 or 6 puck disc. Way to harsh for street driving, more like an on/off switch than a smooth clutch. I've had an ACT 6-puck in my old car, and went through the trouble of swapping it out I hated it so much. I've had the ACT street/strip setup in all 3 of my cars now. Best clutch available IMO.
