Painting wheel centers, other than silver?
Painting wheel centers, other than silver?
I was wondering how ricey/ghetto/nasty it would look to paint the center caps on a stock wheel some color other than silver? I have a Montego Blue car with the calipers painted yellow, and I was almost thinking that painting the wheel centers either yellow or Montego Blue might be okay(?)
Right now the paint has come off so they are black, which doesn't look all that bad.
Opinions?
Don't worry....I have my NOMEX undies on!

Someone had painted theirs black on the forum about a year or so ago. They did post pictures. I'm not a fan of it, but you need to decide what "you" like. It's your car. It won't harm anything to try it one one cap to see what you think.

... thats just my opinion
.
Ahhh.... I would have expected better from a 45 year old!??!
This is what I had on my Montego a few years ago around 1999, and it was GREAT looking. Same setup as you, almost** MBM w/ stock wheels. Brake calipers where bright, bright red (not the 'high temp caliper paint' CRAP) and the hub centers where painted with the same red. Then, I just left my center caps off.
** The slight differences where that 1) my car was lowered to the ground 2) my custom color MBM was blue and flipped to green in the sun, as opposed to the green to blue flip of stock MBM so the Red/green x-mas look was not as apparent & 3) my wheels were sanded smooth, painted bright silver and laid w/ a thick clear coat.

I used Dupli-color 340 silver (M)cc to repaint mine back to the original color.
EDIT: That was before I painted the entire wheel Dupli-color WP102 graphite

I've got some nice low-mileage turbos purchased, a new radiator, and will be making a host of other replacements/upgrades as I do the engine.
My goal is to have it all back up and running in late January/early February, though I was just told by my work I may have to spend a few weeks in Long Island, which will move my timetable back some possibly.
Thanks for all the opinions on the caps, by the way.

i have more step by step pics somewhere on my comp but my hardrive is getting so damn messy. Basically i just sanded all the original paint down then took some black paint for plastics and sprayed the whole piece. Did 2 or 3 coats i think. I then took some silver model paint and with a fine model brush i painted the logo. Clear coat on top of everything and wala!
Very easy to do, and from what i was working with, it greatly improved
