overheating stock twins, where could be prob ?
going to look at some ill but cheap FD today, what could cause turbos overheating ? its car at dealer and they don`t know what to do with it...so they might sell it really cheap
i didn`t saw it yet, but my ideas are :
- clogged cats/some other problem with exhaust (could find out by putting on downpipe/straight pipe ?)
- too lean mixture ? (nonworking one of injectors or they are clogged ?)
- some problem with turbo oil lines ?
what else it could cause ? would see car in couple hours, i`ll try to get pictures and find out more

My turbo's used to get red when I had a precat. The precat was slightly clogged and the intake was also clogged. The turbo's were getting red because they were working like crazy to make any boost and when they finally got it up there it could not go out. Removed intake and put K&N filters and added downpipe and hi-flow cat and I don't have this problem anymore.

If the motor has coolant issues the turbos might as well. The turbos are water cooler from the engine coolant. If you engine coolant is real low or getting to hot ect... it might cause the turbos to get to hot as well.
Do a motor compression test and a coolant system pressure test to make sure the coolant system doesnt have a leak(the leak might be in the motor)
Make sure when you first crank the car that its been sitting for at least a few hours so its good and cold. Crank it up and see if it smokes white from coolant.

didn`t drive it, had it only like 5 mins started idling...it didn`t get glowing, but it was really easy to feel heat coming from turbos...i don`t know if its good or not...i don`t know too much about FD's yet ;o)
i`ll upload photos in few mins...its sweet car, 1993 probably R1, 139 000 km's on car, about 40 000 km's on motor and turbos - and i could buy it for about $6000, it sits at dealer and they don`t know what to do with it (its not just dealer, its Czech Mazda HQ, importer...)

Ex fd *****
in the pics the TACH is from an AUTOMATIC - it may be that the car has been converted to 5spd (or the Inst. Cluster was replaced) if it was a Conversion it may still have the 3:90 rear end insted of the 4:10.

i suspect that the gauge cluster has been swapped out or your car is just an exception and has the automatic tach face for some reason
here's a picture of a manual non-us cluster. you can see the that the area between 7k and 8k is only half filled with red.

Actually the above picture is definetely of a Japan spec car, if you notice the speedometer only reads upto 180km-freaky huh? I have the same one I thought well it says KM/h but maybe it still reads in MP/H-NOPE. I had to replace my original with a used one from a J-spec. I have messed around with quite a few gauges!
