Also, don't Forget that the 1jz is cast iron pig....You would will be adding over 80lbs to the car while shifting a significant amount of that weight further forward in the car. Hell, the LS swap would affect the weight distribution less and it has two more cylinders and has over twice the displacement. Cast iron Inline 6 + RX-7= shitty idea that would kill the cars handling.

I would look into shipping costs to get the car to a good shop to fix the 13b as it sounds like the local shops that you have around you are trying to rip you off. $4500 for a stock motor rebuild is almost comical when a new engine can be had for that. Here's an Idea of breakdown in cost of just my short-block to give you an idea of reasonable costs.

Engine removal/re-install and rebuild: $1000
^ Oil passage mods included
New rotor bearings: $75
2mm RA super seals/Springs: $350
OEM gasket kit: ~$200
Misc parts replaced: $250
Harmonic balancing: $200

Total: $2075 including labor.... How they are trying to get another $2425 in parts is beyond me, and the fast that they would make that estimate without even seeing the car is a red flag to run like hell.

Granted I spent another $1100 on the half bridge porting but that's an unnecessary cost for you unless you want a very aggressive engine that braps alot
