Overboosting only on secondary

I just installed the EVC 4 today. It works good and steady at 10 psi then I get a spike 15-20 psi when the secondary kicks in. EVC not working? Takers?

I was having an over boost problem when the secondary turbo kicked in. It would jump to 15 and stay there. I did the home depot boost controller mod last night. It cost me about $6 for parts, and took about an hour to install. Now my boost is at 12, and I can adjust it to where I want it. I am not having a spike problem, but I didn't have one before.

Hope this helps, Adam

Ya I was having the same problem. The only thing was that I grenaded the motor because I spiked at 20psi. I tossed that piece of **** HKS boost controller and bought my self a "real" boost controller. I bought the BLITZ SBC-ID. That is the best boost controller on the market. It is easy to tune. The features on it are phenominal. It has a built in boost gauge, you can control how fast the waste gate opens (that controls your boost spikes) and I can go on for ever. Do yourself a favour and go buy the boost controller. I know its not cheap, but its cheaper than rebuilding your motor. The problem with the EVC is that it only has one solinoid. Its hard to control boost on the sequential setup. The BLITZ has two solinoids therefore it is able to be fine tuned. The reason why your getting the boost spikes is also the fact that you are running a free flowing exhaust (no cats) and I'm guessing that your waste gate is not ported. Hope this sheds some light on your situation.

OK, fixed it! Here's the cause. I purchased the car from a guy who gave me the boost controller. No instructions. I go to the sites refered, and to HKS site to download the instructions for the evc 4. It turned out the FD has it's own installation instructions.

James at HKS was kind enough to fax me the additional instructions for the FD. I started to hook it up according to the new manual. I called him back for another quick question when he told me the numbering on the electric motor was switched. Good thing I called back.

Anyhow, I reinstalled the unit according to the new instruction and now it runs great. The transistion into secondary is so smooth, I can't even feel the boost drop. I have the boost set at 9 psi, and it feels good.

All those instructions for the EVC 4 people are hosting are WRONG!. There's even a wire you need to splice from the motor and connect it to the diagnostic box. Yes, you need to run a wire all the way to the other side of the engine compartment. You also need to splice the ground wire for additional grounding. None of this information is posted anywhere.

I guess no one on the forum uses the unit. I've been searching the forum, but nothing. If anyone is installing the EVC 4, do not use the instructions posted on the popular sites. Instruction for the FD is different.

That was probably my problem too but I just went and bought a new boost controller because it pissed me off too much.
