What is the over heat exhaust light for that's on the center panel of the car?

 

There is a sensor right above the catalytic converter that switches if the cat gets too hot, like if it was clogged. Then the light comes on.

Like ANY of us would really even notice that light with our arm on the console. I don't think Mazda puts much stock by this sensor...
