Question Opinions on HKS Hiper Carbonfiber Catback

It's about time to retire my PFS exhaust and try something different.

Is anyone running this unit? How does it sound with d/p and m/p? My current setup is obnoxiously loud.

Opinions?

It's loud! I have the HKS Hiper which is the same thing, but without the carbon
fiber overlay. If you use the optional silencer, the sounds very deep, like the Power Extreme.

I'll trade ya mine for your PFS.

Thumbs up

Do you have the optional silencer? Also, where is Lakewood? I might be interested in a trade...

Yep, I do have the silencer and I'll try to post a picture soon. I'm in SoCal.

Why not add a XR1?

Do you want a new exhaust for looks or because the current setup is loud?
If loud, try adding a Borla XR-1 to the midpipe, it will help a lot.
Though I'm not a big fan of Pete or many of his products the PFS exhuast is one of the best exhaust for the FD in terms of qualtiy, performance, looks, weight, etc....
Though the carbon fiber (look) exhuast is nice, there's something that screams rice about it. HKS makes some good quailty products, but everyone single one of them is over priced (yeah I know, I may get flamed for this) and you can find something just as good or better for the same price.
If it's what you really wan't then go for it.
Do you have the dual tip or single tip PFS?
Your current exhuast, though loud, fits the FD just right, but without looking like a Fart Cannon or Grapefruit launcher.
Just a thought.

i have the HKS hipercarbon also. i traded my Apex gt for it. very high quality unit. not as loud as my GT was - im running DP and resonated MP. the carbon fiber is pretty trick. as far as price, it is pretty fair, actually cheap for HKS standards - cheaper than apexi GT. check out phase2motortrend.com - they have a sub $500 price for it i think.

I changed my HKS Hiper SS for the Hiper Carbon. As far as sound goes it is a bit different. Due to the carbon around the cansiter and the SS piping the sound is deeper than the regular Hiper. Also the flange to the mide pipe is straight 3" and does not reduce like most exhausts.

Also the silencer that the Hiper SS uses is a cone type that holds by one bolt. This is prone to vibrate and cause rattleing. The optional silencer for the CF Ti is similar to the one for the racing exhaust and has a bigger ID 60mm compared to 45mm for the regular Hiper. The silencer for the CF Ti is held in by two bolts and SS not mild steel like the standard Hiper.

WARNING: The silencer for the CF Ti Hiper was designed for the Universal CF mufflers from HKS...but it does not fit in the FD CF Ti without modifications. I had to break off some of the welds slide one of the silecer parts down and reweld it. Pain in the butt.

Jason, here on the RX-7store sell it too and he will very likely match any price you found. Try him out first.

Oh also the HKS CF Ti is a US exhaust only. It is not sold in Japan. For once we get something cool here that they do not have in Japan.

You should be able to find it for about $500.00 on most web sites.

i personally think the PFS is one of the worst looking systems out there. its sounds kinda crappy too. i heard it in person, and its not too clean sounding.

i think youll be happy with the switch.
