Oops, seal on the inner brake fluid res cap fell apart
Well the fuel filter and brake fluid on my FD finally got changed. Dunno which was worse, the brown gas comming out of the fuel filter or the brown/black brake fluid we flushed out. We used some fairly good DOT 4 fluid and installed speed bleeders on the calipers. The bleeders made a big difference in how quickly we were able to flush out the system. Though I forgot to buy one for the clutch cylinder...
From what I've read, brown gas comming from an old filter has been seen by several members, though I'm not sure if it's rust in the tank. Should I worry?? I driver her at least a couple of times a week. I think it would be a good idea to drain the tank sometime and double check sometime in the near future.
One thing though, there's another cap under the black cap on the brake fluid resevoir that had a black seal around it. The seal pretty much crumbled up so I cleaned off the cap and reinstalled it as we bled the brakes. The absence of the seal didn't hinder flushing out the old fluid, but I'm kinda weary about driving the car around without a new inner cap. Anyone know what that cap is for?

I'm not sure what part you're talking about (I recall a little strainer that sits in the top of the reservoir, but I think you're talking about a piece that normally sits in the cap), but I'd buy a new cap. It needs to be airtight to the surrounding air to prevent the fluid from absorbing water. I would order a new cap if that's the case.

Thanks Dave, I just needed a little confirmation. I've already tracked down the part number for the whole "cap assembly" and I'm going to call Ray tomorrow for it.
Well, as dgeesaman said, it needs to be airtight so new cap is in order. Missing the seal doesn't affect your brakes yet but eventually the fluid will absorb moisture and the boiling point of your brake fluid starts going down and under heavy breaking the fluid can start boiling and your brakes will fade.
I also replaced my brake fluid the other day and my cap was gone so I replaced it with a new one.

I don't know about prices there in US but here it was around 7$. I get 30% off the price since I work for Mazda so I paid only 5$

Oh, and the part number is for Japanese model, sorry about that.
