one fan works and one doesnt

hey guys im having a bit of a fan problem and im hoping someone can help. maybe an easy solution. something someone else has encountered before. i searched. i swear i did. so here is my problem- i have a fan mod so that the fans turned on with the ignition. this worked for a long time but now it seems that only one fan will run. i traced all of the wires and tryed to see something visually wrong and im not finding anything. any suggestions before i go and tear it all apart tomorrow? any help will be greatly appreciated as always. thanks!

isn't much trouble to test the fans, you can either test them by jumpering the wires to the suspect fan or jumpering them at the fan connector itself.

page E-11 in the FSM shows the procedure for testing the fan motors.

if its the motor they are uber expensive. $200 at least. if its not then its wiring which is time-expensive.

Probably the motor. I had this happen, had to pick up a new (used) motor from the 'For Sale' section.

I just had to get one from Advanced Auto, for 134.81 or something. Works great, although you have to splice on your old connector to the new fan. You have to take the fan assy out to separate the fan from the motor, which meant draining the coolant for me, but it is possible to get it back in there without completely taking the fans out and draining coolant. If you have a friend with small hands. we call her jap hands.

Taking the fans out is not that big of a deal. You do it from the top, take out your airbox and intercooler and voila! Then you have to unbolt the fan assembly and take it out, then you can take the fans out and replace as needed. Notice that one is a four-blade and one is a five-blade.

I couldn't get mine out without taking off the upper coolant hose. I have a koyo rad so that might have had something to do with it.

Make sure you zip tie the new fan wires down!

I also had to raise my battery tray because it was hitting on the fan. A zip tie wrapped around the (subframe?) where the left side of the tray sat worked for me.
