For once I praise the Mazda engineers!

Saturday night/Sunday morning about 1 a.m. I was driving home and my brakes on the Fd started grinding. No biggie except that I had an auto X in the morning. I went to the Autozone by my house that is open 24 hours. Big surprise-I can't get anything for 2 days. I came home dejected expecting to miss the auto X (especially because I was just about to order a set of Hawk hp+s). I am sitting in my garage when an idea hit me. I wonder if the pads on my 86 GXL, that has not run in a year and a half, will fit. I tore both cars apart and the pads were close enough to try. The pads just had to wear out on the side without the tweeter. After a couple frozen bolts and a piston that pushed out I was done by 6 a.m. I bled the system, changed tires, and showered. I made it to the auto X and the brakes worked fine. For once I praise the Mazda engineers.
