Hey Guys,

ok, got a problem I'm hoping you guys might be able to help me with. My car has been getting progressively worse with starting in the mornings (actually, starting at any time of the day). It seems to happen more often when the engine is cold, but seems to happen randomly though, just more frequently when the engine is cold.

The car will turn over fine most of the time, but the car seems hesitant to want to start up, like the engine will keep turning over for a couple of seconds and then start, but as it's starting it sounds like the engine is bucking or it will almost die during the startup. Sometimes the car won't turn on at all, and if I don't turn the key back to the off position before I try and start it again, when I try and turn the car on again it makes a screeching noise kind of like when a car is already on and you try to turn the key to the "start" position. If the car does not start up on the first try, I always have to turn the key back to the off position and then try and turn it on again. Sometimes it'll take me up to 3 or 4 tries to get the car started. Once the car wouldn't even turn over, but after trying to start the car about 2-3 times then the car started to turn over. The engine runs smoothe when at idle and it doesn't feel like there is any loss in power, so I don't think it's specifically the engine.

Anybody have any ideas what this might be?

i think the starter is messing up most likely. its hard to tell without being there but it sounds like it form the description. The soleniod(sp?) may be going out.

 

Is the solenoid in the starter itself or are the starter and the solenoid 2 separate units?? I can probably get them from malloy and try to replace them, but am not really sure. If the solenoid is a separate unit, any idea where it's located?

 

The solenoid is attached to the starter, but can be replaced. I think there's only 2 bolts holding the starter (and the wireing), pretty easy to take off. Run it up to your local autozone and get it tested.

 

Do a search as this was covered and a bosh replacement from the NAPA parts store was available as a dirrect bolt in and only 20 some odd bucks
