Is the Oil Seal Plate neccesary?

Its the plate that covers the gap from the rear iron to the inside of the bellhousing. I dont think it really seals anything, just to keep junk from going inside? oil seal plate is what they call it in the fsm tho. would it be ok to go without it until i can find another one?

Agreed it does not seem to relate to oil at all. I remember that thin aluminum plate! Would guess it is really a dirt/dust seal. What happened to the original?

(P.S. The brain does NOT run at 6 Gigahertz.)

It's designed to keep the clutch disk dust out of the engine bay and it will also help keep the oil in the bellhousing from the rear main oil seal. You don't want oil being flung on the hot parts of the turbo manifold if the rear oil seal starts leaking.
