Oil Pressure Question

I just got a 93 with 50000 miles on it. I noticed the oil pressure runs about 60 - 65 PSI when cold at an idle and about 10 - 20 after a couple hours @ 75 MPH. I don't know what oil has been used in the car in the past and I am going to renew all the fluids in the car. I am trying to figure out if I should go to a 20/50 to raise the PSI at warm idle or stick with the recommended 10/30. The car runs 30 - 40 PSI @ 3k going down the road. I don't know if this is normal oil pressure with the turbo's or not. the car runs strong and passes no smoke, just lower than I would expect for idle pressure.
My normal breathing 82 12A runs about 30 PSI at idle.
Also what are people running for tire pressures on the stock wheels and tire sizes ?

With 20W50, my oil pressure was 30 at warm idle and was about 120 at WOT. Typical highway cruising was around 60 or so. With 10W30 in the car right now, I'm seeing slightly lower, but not much. If you're readings aren't similar, you might want to clean the sending unit just in case. The unit is located below the oil filter, looks like a plug coming out of the driver's side.

I still have stock wheels and tires sizes (most don't any more) and I run 30-32 psi.

Your not exactly in the "sunbelt", I would stick with 10W-30 at least in the winter. The pressure sounds right. Higher pressure doesn't mean better lubrication necessarily. After a change in 50 to 60 degree weather my pressure is between 20-30 on a hot engine after about 1500 miles the oil degrades and the pressure is between 10 and 20 in hot idle. Frequent changes are a good idea.

Use a real oil pressure gauge if you are worried. The pressure transducer that is used in our rx-7's really sucks and the pressure that you are reading on the gauge in the car is most likely wrong. Mine fluctuates like hell. I tested the pressure with a mechanical gauge and it was fine. The oil pump is one of the strongest parts or our engines. Good luck

SO are the people running syntech or Mobile 1 getting more than 1500 between changes or is there enough residue buildup to warrant the oil swap. This will be the first fluid chsnge since I bought the car last saturday and I want to change oil types once so I am trying to find out what others have had success with over some time. I know EVERYONE has an opinion on oils but this is the first time I ever could see the advantage of synthetics with the resistance to heat and resulting breakdown. We run Redline in the racecars I work on but I can't afford to run that in a street car.

I will tell you this as true as I stand ! Synthetics are better, Mobil 1 inparticular is if not the best one of the best. I had the oportunity to strip down an engine wich had been overheated 3 times on a chassis dyno the first two times high enough to burst the radiator hoses, the second to cause detonation through massive temperature in combustion chamber. The oil was soooo hot that it had burnt the paint of the sump !!!! It turned the oil into a grey colour ! but there was no carbon build up in the turbo and the bearings and ecentric shaft were as good as new. I was amazed to put it mildly. The oil rings were like ones in an engine that head been just run in.

From that day onward I switched to Mobil 1, have not used a better oil. I leave mine in my car for 3000 miles, then drain it out of the rx7 and put it in my second car and use it for another 6000 miles
