oil leaking wanna know if it could be rotor housing

im lookin to buyin another FD 94tt and at the bottom of the motor there is a leaking problem and i havent been able to jack the car up...im guessing it could be the front and rear main seals....is that an easy fix or is it something that i shouldnt get into it doesnt seem like a big leak just something im concerned about before purchasing this beast...i just dont want it to be the rotor housing and have to replace the apex seals.....when i drove it it seemed like it wasnt as powerful as my R1 and this is the touring edit. i really couldnt tell the boosting differences between the turbos where as in my R1 it was a def distinction it just seems a lot slower then the R1 im guessin that the oil press is causing the problem and that if it is fixed that it will drive right again.....but then again the R1 and touring are a little different..but will the oil press from a leak cause it to be that much slower...any help is appreciated...thanx

What would an external oil leak possibly have to do with a rotorhousing or apex seals?

Please do some research about how the engine works before posting these sort of questions, this is off the wall.

As for the car being slower, perhaps it has boost control issues, which is common. Stock boost pattern is 10-8-10, so if this car is only seeing 5psi, of course it's going to be slower.

FWIW, it's VERY common for these cars to leak oil at the oil pan. Also its not unusual to see oil on the rear of the engine, from spilled oil out of oil filters at oilchange time.

The oil pressure sensor is a high failure item. It will leak onto the bottom of the engine and get all over the starter and the plate that covers the transmission.

Yes, the stock oil pressure sensors often fail, but I haven't seen many of them leak because of it. A leaking oil pan would be the more likely culprit IMO.

Kento, I've had two fail which both happened to have leaked. Not sure if the failing and leaking issues correlate at all, though...

I've had two fail, and neither leaked. I have seen one leaking, but that was at the threads; not an issue related to the sensor itself, which is an internal design (when it fails, it just seizes up or tears-- doesn't explode or leak to the exterior).

As I said, 2 of mine leaked. The leak was from from the external casing, not the threads. Take from that what you will.

If the leak had enough pressure and flow to 'spray' in any direction, it would eat quarts by the week. It is possible that a slow leak in combination with engine bay airflow at highway speeds will cause it to migrate up/back from the source.

Really, you will need to get the car jacked up, clean off the oil very well (both under the oil filter, around the filler neck, the sides of the housings, and all around the oil pan), then driven again until the leak becomes visible.

Could be oil pan and bad engine mount on pass. side and back end of eng. area. Compression test is always good with 7's before you buy.

It's in the FAQ in the 4th post of the newbie sticky. (First thread in this forum). Questions 24, 28.

What it tells you is how well the internal engine seals are working, especially the apex seals. You should get 3 numbers for each rotor. A bad apex seal usually shows as 2 low numbers on one rotor.

Also, the coolant or oil o-rings can wear out, resulting in overall low compression numbers.
