Exclamation Oil leaking from oil filter neck

How do you fix an oil leak on the oil filter neck? Does it require new o-rings or gaskets? Does anybody have a write up on this procedure?

there's a gasket there, just call ray from malloy and he'll know exactly what you need. you would have to take the elbow and upper plenum off but its pretty easy to do.

Actually the oil filter pedestal takes 2 O rings. My friend and I just replaced mine, not hard to do. The O rings were as brittle as potato crisps.

I find that the easiest way to remove the oil filter pedastal is from underneath the car. You'll have to remove the oil pressure sensor and also the hard oil line that connects to the oil filter pedastal. If you don't want to completely remove the oil filter pedastal, you don't have to unbolt the hard line. however, it's easier to align everything if you remove it completely. Careful not to strip the nuts when removing them. The one closer to the firewall is kind of hard to get at. It'll take some time and patience to get it off. goodluck

IT is much easier to do it from the top, all you need is a 23mm socket for the oil return line bolt and a 10mm wrench for the 2 nuts that hold the pedestal to the rear plate. There are 2 o-rings that seal the pedestal to the block. You can buy new viton o-rings that will last longer than the buna that are in there.

I just used the regular O rings, got them from MazdaTrix, but I'm sure you can get the same thing from Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda. Anyone know where to get the viton ones?

Ok, I just got finished changing out the o-rings. I ended up just going to the local Mazda dealer (because I didn't want to wait). These fu**ing 2 o-rings are $7.93, I fuc**ng hate the Mazda Dealer. Anyway, it is pretty straight forward the hardest part is getting the 10mm nut closest to the firewall off (it’s a pain). The old rings were all flat and brittle. I put in the new o-rings and bolted everything back up. No more Leak!!

What is that cylinder directly below the oil filter pedestal? Is it some type of sensor, because it has a wire connected to it?

Now I move on to the AST that cracked last week

The small one is the water temp sensor the large one is the oil pressure sensor.

Is it possible for the oil pressure sensor below the oil filter neck to leak? Well im sure its possible, but is it a typical problem part that needs to be checked or replaced?
