Oil leak in font of engine

I have an oil leak coming from the front of my engine just behind the lowest pulley. I changed the PCV, the oil filler neck looked fine. I could not see any oil leaking from around there. In my search I found that there is the seal around the front of the engine that sometimes leaks if the engine has sat for a while. Does this sound right? Any help would be appreciated.

I had to have my front seal replaced for the same symptoms. I think this is not an uncommon problem.

Thanks for the info. Did you do a complete rebuild, or just the seal? It is called the front seal right? I have said that and some people say "front seal?" Trying to sell the car for $6400. That seem about right?

front cover gasket, i forget the part number. but its a cardboard paper gasket and very fragile. ive heard that the rx8 motor uses a metal one and is universal with our 13b.

Difference between the front cover gasket and the front seal? I'm guess the cover gasket is minor and the front seal is rebuild?

Front cover seal is a seal that goes around the e-shaft. It's not required to take off the front cover to repair it.

The front cover gasket is the seal between front side housing and the front cover. It does require the cover to come off and either have the gasket replaced or just resealed.

The latter is more work/time/money(if paying someone to do the repair).

My car was actauly leaking from the front seal and the oil pan. It cost about $700 to fix both. They did not have to pull the engine. From what the guy told me I would guess that a substantial portion of the cost was the oil pan. He said it was a nightmare to change that. I can't find the bill so I can't say how much of that $700 was the front seal.

I found the bill and it was $330 to replace the front seal.

If its not leaking, and only damp with oil and you have high milage on your motor, I would just wait untill the motor comes out next. Its alot easier to do with the motor out of the car. The oil pan is about a 4.5 hour job by the book but is actually pretty easy with the right tools.

Oil pan was done and is brand new. This is an active leak at the front of the engine behind the lowest pulley.
